For LAX, allow yourself a good 1.5 hours to get to the parks if there is any traffic at all.

I grew up near Disneyland but live in the San Francisco area now.

LA traffic is really bad. That's why I caution about LAX. However, coming from New York it might be your best option price-wise.

If you fly in to SNA (John Wayne), your transportation options are plentiful and relatively cheap. About $35 for a taxi; $15 for a shuttle that makes multiple stops.

A taxi from LAX is expensive and that leaves shuttles, which take longer and make multiple stops.

We've done the WDW trip several times. I think your kids would enjoy DLR. You don't have all the different parks, but Disneyland has a charm and magic that Magic Kingdom lacks.

Southwest would be John Wayne (they call it Orange County).

If you have a great airfare into LAX, as compared to LGB and SNA, then I recommend using the Disneyland Express, that is $25 per person round trip with the discount coupon below (print out one coupon per person).

But I al think getting a rental car is a great option for most, as it allows you to so shopping, eat at other restaurants, sightsee and check out other places.

I like using Hotwire.com to see what rates are being offered on the exact dates of my trip, then go and try and find a better price.

I mean, we will rent a car but as Suzie said, the traffic!!!! Just trying to get my plans in motion. We are looking at mid June as soon as my daughter is done with school. Thanks.

At LAX, you have to wait for your company's shuttle bus to come by (which can take 10-15 minutes easy), then get shuttled off the airport grounds, then wait in a line with everyone else who was on your shuttle bus. At LB the cars are RIGHT there opposite the terminal. You can easily save 30 minutes or more and lots of hassle JUST on the rent-a-car end at LB compared to LAX. Plus, LB is quite a bit closer to DL to begin with.

I also like Jet Blue a lot- more comfy seats, individual TV's, etc.

SNA is great, but I don't know of any non-stop flights there from NY. I've seen connections, but of course that adds an hour or more to your trip, more chance of bags getting lost, or missing your connections, etc. Jet Blue has non-stop flights from JFK to LB.

    That would be my recommendation.

(Now I live in PA) and I want to go back. Anyway, I think when I checked Expedia.com there actually was a Continental flight non-stop into SNA. Well, I guess it doesn't matter if it's LB since all of you are saying the distance is about the same between the 2. Thank you!!!!

When you leave the Airport, just keep going straight. There is only one exit to the airport, and the road going straight is Wardlow, In a couple of miles, it changes names to Ball Road. About 14 miles from the airport, you will see Disneyland on the Right.

That said--go to Long Beach if it is an option. It is an easy way to start your vacation.
