When I explained that Epcot was part of the Disney property and thus inside "DisneyWorld" (along with the Magic Kingdom etc...) she insisted that not only was it not a part of "DisneyWorld", it had nothing to do with the Disney company, and just happened to be nearby. I sighed and let it go.

The only instance I can think of of two Disney parks opening in the same year would be DCA and Tokyo DisneySea both debuting in 2001, and since one of those isn't owned by the Disney company, it almost doesn't count.

And yeah, MOST people call it DisneyWorld, I dont see a problem there frankly. I mean how many people actually say, 'Disney's Animal Kingdom' or 'Disney's California Adventure'? I mean, these names already are a mouth full, they arent doing themselves any favors with these long ownership titles. But I can think of one I thought was funny and someone asked me if Walt Disney built Tokyo Disneyland too? When I informed him WD died in the 60s and TDL didnt even open until 1980s, he then thought maybe his kids built that one instead lol. In fact, he was convinced Walt Disney had his hand in every one minus the parks in the 90's and beyound. He couldnt believe WD himself had only built the one and only original park although how a guy whose been dead decades keep making them, you got me .

Sure, the official name is Walt Disney World, but it's referred to by guests and employees alike as Disney World. Heck, listen to the official song "I'm Going To Disney World" from a few years ago. Or look at the Superbowl commercials, with the football player saying EXACTLY what the promotions department wants him to say - "I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!" It's a completely acceptable name for the park in Florida, just as DCA has become an acceptable name for Disney's California Adventure.

Somebody said they thought it meant that I was "on the down-low" - as if I were trying to keep a secret but wearing a hat emblazoned with it. I'm not a stickler about the "Walt" part of WDW, but let's at least keep the 'world' and 'land' part of the names - if only for clarity, and not refer to the parks as just "Disney".
