Sure, I would imagine there would be some small fear of the Chinese base shrinking a little, but I can't imagine it's all that huge in the first place. Also, I'm sure as long as Chinese keep visiting Tokyo, then they will usually visit TDR anyway since it's usually part of the package tour. Certainly not saying you're wrong or making it up, I just wonder how much of a 'threat' do they see HKDL? Besides, HKDL has a looong way to go to get any to anywhere close to the level of TDR in terms of size and attendance. That resort alone gets 25 million a year and HKDL is projected to barely get 5-6 mil in its first year. TDL alone, based on those figures, gets 3-1 compared to HK, so I think any 'war' will be a short one .

One thing for sure, is the cost of travelling in Japan is more expensive than in HK (Tokyo is always on top of the list, in terms of cost of living). For those japanese who live in the northern or southern part of Japan, it is cheaper for them to travel to HK than Tokyo. Especially if they have been to TDR a number of times, why wouldn't they try somewhere different?

It also marked the record high for the numbers of visitors for June. Following factors continue to be accounted for a steady increase of the visitors: visa waiver for visitors from Korea and Taiwan, the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, and VISIT JAPAN campaign. -->provisional figures of international visitors to Japan in May 2005 were announced at the same time. According to these figures, visitors from Taiwan increased by 22.8% (sightseers: +26.3%), because of temporary visa waiver during the Aichi Expo. On the contrary, visitors from Korea slightly decreased by -0.8% (sightseers: +0.2%), affected by Takeshima (Dokdo) conflict. Visitors from China increased only by 6.6% (sightseers:-12.5%)affected by anti-Japan protests, and also visitors from Hong Kong decreased by 23.5% (sightseers: -27.2%) affected by anti-Japan protests and the termination of last year's visa waiver. -->Number of visitors from Europe increased only by 3.9%, from North America slightly increased by 1.8% and from Oceania decreased by -3.6%. Aichi Expo and steady and high exchange rate of euro continued to act as favorable factors to promote sightseers, however on the other hand, negative factors such as decrease of UK-Oceania line transit passengers also gave some affect. ---> Total Number of Japanese Tourists Abroad 2005 (Jan-Jul) :9,767,000 ---> Total Number of Overseas-based Visitors to Japan for 2005 (Jan-Jul): 3,929,538 so there are more japanese travelling going abroad than Overseas visitors to Japan !!!!!

I'm living in a thriving and modern country that's democratic. Not to say it doesn't have its problem, but when we think what's on the other side of the border here, yes, they won hands down .
