Does that sub say Ethan Allen because of the store Ethan Allen? Or is that some reference I'm not aware of?

The Ethan Allen sub is because all of the original names for the subs were based on people in US history around revolutionary times (and possibly real US subs of the late 50's?). When they changed the paint scheme from grey to yellow in the late 80's, several of them got new names to make them sound less Cold War-inspired. When they switched to the Nemo version a couple years ago, I think that they used most of the first-generation-yellow names, but one or two of them may have changed.

I don't know if I've ever seen any from the 60's before, but there are a couple from the original Tomorrowland, so they have to be pretty old. Great find, Hans!

Additionally, it even looks like they had a different mold for creating the heads, since they really don't look like the more round and cartoony faces we're used to now. I don't know why they would have changed it, or when it happened, but it's just interesting to see that they changed something so fundamental. http://www.flickr.com/photos/w...0852423/ It also looks like they completely redid the paint scheme withing the first decade or so of the ride being there. I know that it was changed at some point, but I had always thought it was a much more recent thing. Mary Blair thought that white was the most festive color, but that was taken out quite quickly. Recently, that look has returned, but as a projection surface of sorts for color-changing LEDs, so it's still not an all-white finale. http://www.flickr.com/photos/w...0852423/ And it's very cool to see the pre-Fantasmic! stage on TSI. Frankly I wish they'd go back to the original programming. Yet another example of how Disneyland is becoming more and more about Disney and little else. "And it's very cool to see the pre-Fantasmic! stage on TSI. I've heard that there was one there, but I'm not sure if I've ever actually seen a picture of it. Anybody know who/what performed on it?" The date on the photo is 1979 and if I remember correctly Disneyland was doing a summer night concert series with C list headliners on that stage in the evenings during the time.
