We drove from Santa Monica to Long Island. We almost didn't go to Marceline, because it is not even listed in the AAA tour book yet. Boy, are we glad we went with our hunch and drove there anyways. This place is an unknown treasure trove and inspiration for any Disney fan. They are on the ground floor of building it into a tourist destination. They have opened up a charming Walt Disney Hometown Museum. The Disney Family Home looks practically like it did the day he lived there. There is an excellent and inspirational recreation of Walt's Barn. The Uptown Theater has been in continuous operation since 1930 and the Great Locomotive Chase premiered there in 1956 with Walt and Roy in attendance. They started an annual Toonfest there a few years back. They even had the three principle blocks of town legally changed to "Main Street USA" with the US Postal Service. Everything they have done to promote their town has been top notch. So we about to hawk the house and rehabilitate the old pharmacy soda fountain (building is from 1900) Main Street USA and form an Artists Co-op. The space features high ceilings with the original pressed tin ceiling, wood floors and the original soda fountain counter where we will offer refreshments and Free WiFi. _________________________ THE PROPOSAL: The spaces would be open to artists and vendors of any and all Disney-related or period stuff (from 1900s Victorian to 1950s kitsch) You set the prices of your goods, build your own space out and decorate it, and put on the price tags and walk away. We provide ability to collect cash, Visa and Mastercard and a full time staff member to write up sales. Utilities are paid in full. Unlike other co-ops, you do not need to work at the gallery unless you wish to. Spaces would range from a 5' x 8' wall space to a full 10' x 10' booth and even an exterior sculpture garden area. Prices would range from $30 up to $150. 10% of all gross sales to go back to the co-op to cover costs. We figured we would set up a dorm style artist apartment in the back with an efficiency kitchen and full bath. Where overnight stays would be available for artists at a nominal fee. _________________________ MY QUESTION: Are we going to go broke over this – or are there any people out there who want to participate?
