Jan was all kerflunked about being the middle kid: she wasn' the cute baby and she wasn't the adult Marsha, so *sigh* it was so hard to be Jan. Then all of a sudden, Jan gets a necklace to brighten her day. Low and behold, we learn the necklace was from Alice who also was a middle-child and felt Jan's pain.

Then, all the kids had to head for the ice cream parlor where Alice had found a job and beg her to come back.
