As it stood, the studio was set to release Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5), Star Wars, Pirates and Cars 3 (June 16) all in summer. The studio didn't say whether the changes impact its plans to release an untitled fairy-tale movie on Dec. 22, but don't be surprised if that date changes.<<

For Disney to have Pirates, Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Cars 3 to come out within a few weeks of each other is insane.

Great, longer to have to wait for the next movie!

I would not be surprised if Star Wars becomes synonymous with the holiday season (something they failed it with their first infamous attempt).

    LOL!

I agree; they probably looked at the December receipts for TFA, and thought "if it ain't broke..."

It will be interesting to see what scrambling other studios do with this change. In particular, Steven Spielberg's movie version of the novel "Ready Player One" is currently scheduled for the same day that Episode VIII moved to. I can't imagine that Warner Bros isn't already looking for a new release date for it.

The other interesting one is "Avatar 2", which is currently slated for release 10 days later on Christmas Day. Even though Fox is releasing that one, I'm sure Disney has to be coordinating with them since the new attractions in Animal Kingdom give them a huge stake it its success. While the Christmas movie market might be big enough for both films, I'd think the availability of Imax and other special format screens would be a big issue.

My bet is that "Ready Player One" moves to November and Avatar 2 gets pushed to Spring or Summer 2018.

Is that the Jack and the Beanstalk-inspired story? Or something else? It seems odd that they're saying it's a fairy tale, but not saying which one

Luckily, many of them last into January, when the new releases are usually what the studios consider their dregs.
