The Disney Gossip blog reports Disney is planning to remove The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management and return a version of the original Tropical Seranade show:

A little birdie, literally a little birdie, tells me that the sweet sounds of "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing" is now wafting happily out from the Enchanted Tiki Room in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. This is not just to torture the fanboys, but actually a sign that the attraction has ditched the new management and is returning to a more classic show.

But like Hokie said, I'm not dying to see the old show again. I saw it years ago at MK and DL and really have no desire to see it again. Of course, I could say the same thing about Captain EO. But on the upside, there's a chance I'd visit the Tiki Room more than once a decade if the old show comes back.

So while new show, would be better, old show is an improvement, and I would put it on the rotation again.

So I'm not at all wild about the idea of them going backwards and bringing back an old attraction. But then EO has been very popular both at DL and at the MK, so perhaps the mindset is to bring on the nostalgia.

I hadn't thought about that until someone mentioned it yesterday, but I do wonder if Disney would have face some bad pub if it reopened as-is and, if so, if that plays into their decision should they decide to change it. Certainly gives them an excuse to change it if they want to but have a hard to justifying it.

Agreed, Doobie. Switching back to the original show without some justification (albeit a weak one) would appear as if WDI had lost confidence in their producers and show writers. Given that Kevin Rafferty is still gainfully employed inside Glendale, that's certainly not the case.

I do agree that Gilbert crossed the line with his comments. Does it warrant his dismissal as the AFLAC duck? Who knows. Does it warrant his removal from the Tiki Room? Probably not. But if it's good enough of an excuse to bring back the original, you'll get no complaints from me.

As much as I admire what Kevin Rafferty writes most of the time, this one (along with Stitch) was a big misfire. The Uh-Oa AA was impressive, but that's about it. The rest of the show just didn't measure up.

But that would have been cleanup and repair of infrastructure, which would take several weeks to implement. That gives the execs plenty of time to decide which show to bring in after the repairs are completed.

I'm guessing this situation with Gilbert was their opportunity to bring back the original show, without openly admitting UNM wasn't as good and didn't resonate as well with audiences.
