    According to the Disney's HooZoo, Pete is a cat. I think it is kind of ironic how come in "Goof Troop", Goofy and Max are dogs and have a pet cat named Waffles, whereas Pete, PJ, Peg, and Pistol are all cats, and have a pet dog named Chainsaw.

    When "Goof Troop" used to air on Disney Channel/Toon Disney, their website used to call the entire cast dogs. In many cartoons, Pete has looked like a wolf or a dog. In recent years, they have been calling Pete a cat again (he was featured in a line of "Disney Cat" pins, and was called a cat on "House of Mouse"). In the "Three Musketeers" he was most definitely a cat, complete with claws and a cat-motif chair.
