While I have absolutely no information on the quality of these films, I can't help but think that they're going to do some pretty serious brand damage. Even though the Tinkerbell films were released direct to DVD (with a short stint at the El Capitan), they were actually kind of cute movies; I just can't imagine that these are going to be any good.

And will these become part of the official Disney canon? Other Toon Studios (or whatever they've been called through the years) are always questionable. It seems like Rescuers Down Under is generally considered to be 'official', while others like A Goofy Movie, Teachers Pet: The Movie, and Doug's Big Movie don't make the cut. I'm really hoping that these are quietly forgotten.

RDU is, but that was made by Feature Animation, wasn't it? I'm not the expert on the inner workings of the studio, past or present, but I always thought it was.

    Correct.

Worth noting: There are quite a few movies on the official list that are not nearly as good as Teacher's Pet and (especially) A Goofy Movie.

I haven't had the pleasure of enduring Doug's Big Movie yet. The official DVD of that one is SERIOUSLY hosed - looks like they used a time-compressed television master - and I'm trying to get a better source for it. Thanks a lot YET AGAIN, Disney.

And don't get me started on Teacher's Pet. I know most people can't get past artistic-ugly, but the movie rocks. Rocks I tell you. One of my favorite scores.

My son is 4, obsessed with Cars (we will be in Carsland in about a week), and can't wait for Planes.

And yet. When I watch that unwatchable trailer, I can't help but hear the faint voice of John Lassater riding a white horse saying something....something about cheap sequels cheapening a company's name with its cheapness?

And now a sequel to the cheapquel of the spinoff of the franchise for the small demographic that is my son. Disney saved!

I was only answering Ferret's post. He (she?) seemed to think RDU was a DisneyToon picture.
