As of this posting Brave, Disney / Pixar's newest film released on Friday, has a 63% rating on RottenTomatoes.com (60% is required for a fresh rating). And even many of the positive reviews suggest the film isn't up to Pixar's normal standards. Are you excited about seeing this film?

IMHO, Brave will not be a financial success for Disney, it looks no better than Tangled in terms of quality.

I agree Cars 2 was sub-par, but Tangled was a wonderful movie. Great music, stands up to multiple viewings, beautiful animation.

I think Brave looks incredible - but I"m not sure if it will be a financial hit.

I was more enamoured with the idea of the movie before I saw the trailers, but again, that's fairly standard for Pixar. I don't think I've ever been excited by a Pixar trailer except maybe Nemo and that was more because the animation was cool.

I wonder if any of the negativity comes from it's rocky Director-dumping past?

I'll no doubt see it anyway - I really want to like this one!!!

I'm often surprised people think Tangled wasn't that great.

Do you have any specific things you didn't like about it?

I loved the visual imagery and Maximus, the rest not so much, including the music.

I'm glad others liked it, it just didn't do anything for me.

The scene in the "Snugly Duckling' seemed like filler. What was the point of that whole sequence?

And while of course it's a cartoon, that sequence where Flynn and the horse are hanging on the tree branch and it breaks (see TENG again) they fall hundreds of feet and the horse just lands on the ground and keeps going. Really?

It's like Indiana Jones, Short Round and Willie jumping out of an airplane in a life raft. Really?

By the way, watched some of "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" over the weekend. Sheesh. What a mess that movie is,

The song and the premise of the visit disrupt the story flow. The events there should have been different, explaining why they'd risk so much to help Flynn later on in the movie and giving Rapunzel and her hair a little more to do magically.

I agree wholeheartedly about the opening narration. It really ruined the climax of the film and Flynn's character for me.

The one thing I miss is hand-drawn animation. I loved the look of Princess and the Frog because it took me back to favorite Disney movies of my childhood with their gorgeous, colorful hand-drawn scenery.

In my mind that sums up most Princess movies. Certainly something like The Little Mermaid which is often referred to as the turning point of WDFA. PatF and Tangled are this generation's versions of the late 80's early 90's movies. Certainly they haven't hit the heights of BatB yet, but their last few offerings have been solid and seen a return to form.

I think the CG medium of Tangled is part of the problem. As Disney's first CG fairy tale it had a lot to live up to and missed those high expectations. Had it been hand drawn I think more people would have seen it as a step up from PatF (and story-wise it was).

Anyway, this is wildly off topic now.

I wonder if Brave will suffer for looking like How To Train Your Dragon, which was a great movie so not necessarily a bad association to have, but it does make it look a little bit "been there, done that"!!!
