I was working the late-night "Very Merry" at the Magic Kingdom the other night. Walking through Liberty Square, I was struck with just how beautiful the Lilly Belle Riverboat is when it's all lit up at night with it's running lights, and out on the cold, dark waters of the Rivers of America. Smoke pulsing from her smokestacks. What a marvelous image. And not a thrill ride in sight.

It gets better, as she passes by Big Thunder Mountain, itself all lit up at night. Takes your breath away.

Kudos for the "Very Merry" parade -- Marvelous floats and energetic performers. The Toy Story float and it's host of characters is especially well done.

Most Disney parades don't have live bands as part of the regular lineup. The parade music is carried by the prerecorded background music track coming from speakers behind and above the guest, while each float contributes it's own timed sound track that blends in with the background track as it passes by.

Well the Christmas parade has at least 2 live bands as part of the parade. There is the all-brass Dixieland band playing on the 3-part riverboat float. And then the Green Army Marching Band, all playing fully green instruments. (of course!)

All this performance music is done live, and is synchonized with the ongoing parade background music track as they pass. Wonderful performances.

The "Very Merry" fireworks are extensive and an especially effective display. The perimeter fireworks give a sense of scale and grand dimension to the show that I've not seen anywhere else. And the number of fireworks going off at each of the 8 perimeter locations is not small.

Not quite sunrise, all the lights are on throughout the Park, and it seems as if you are the only one there and for a few brief moments the place is all yours. An even better moment is doing the same thing but at Christmas when all the decorations are up. I'll tell you it was a feeling I will always remember and one that only a select number of people. One of the perks of being a cast member!

Remember she only has one smokestack now.:)
Anyway, 36 days, and a wakeup, I'll be there.

Oooops. You're right. It's the Mark Twain at DL that has two.

But then I was really talking about the two steam vents up high near the rear that emit their smoke in pulses. For the life of me I don't recall if the "smokestack" emits anything.

Speaking of the parade, is it my imagination, or did they enhance it this year? For some reason, I came away thinking it was better than past years' versions. As for bands, don't forget the wooden soldiers.

Good catch. I did see the wooden soldiers marching and playing too. That makes 3 live bands.
