I'm not expecting a "cooler" visit, perhaps just less crowded and chaotic.

I've heard the end of Aug is OK because some schools are back in session. Our schools are in until the very end of June, but don't start back up until after labor day. We may try late Aug next time.

I remember when I was very young, I would feel sick in the heat, so my parents had to really plot out the day carefully to make sure I was indoors as much as possible.

We would do the park's in the morning and then go back to the hotel around 12:30 - 1:00 and go swimming for about 3 hours or so. If you can put up with 100 degree heat it will be enjoyable for you. We simply loved it last year. Though the last day we were there at the Magic Kingdom, it was 114 degrees!
