    >>Disney World is not in my future. Nor is it in my past. It's in my pre-nup. You can look it up.
"Are you taking the kids to Disney World?" a fellow soccer parent asks.
This is absurd. In the first place, I never thought I would be a soccer mom. I've had no preparation - my childhood weekends were spent at antiwar demonstrations or drama class - and suspect I lack the proper paraphernalia.
To be fair, our indoor soccer team sports as many exuberant dads, and the games have become the high point of our weekends. So there - you can be surprised by life's curveballs or, in this case, offside kicks.
Pleasure surfaces in the most remote corners. It's a nice surprise to find yourself in a place you never thought to find yourself, and loving it.
    But not Orlando.
Disney World is in my pre-nup because it's a cliche to go there. OK, many things are a cliche - Venice is a cliche - but this one is positively Mickey Mouse, exhibiting no creativity and less risotto. Disney already has too much of my money, what with the movies about the talking fish and the one about the talking toys and the damage done in the Pooh years.<<

Much more at the link above.

She spends the whole first portion of her writing, trying to make excuses for even mildly conforming to the "norm" by spending her time at soccer games.

I think Disney or no Disney, this person has serious issues, basically, she doesn't know what she likes or does not like, it's all about rebelling.

I see the whole article as saying this:
"I am conforming to Soccer games, but I am NOT going to Disneyland, so hey I guess that makes up for the Soccer games."

SHE SAYS << It's a nice surprise to find yourself in a place you never thought to find yourself, and loving it.
    >>

Sounds like she is focused on what SHE loves and hates, forget it her KIDS or husband would like to go to WDW. It's all about her, I've met the type and its really sad to come across people like that. It has nothing to do with WDW. Poeple like that usually don't stay married for the long haul.

In any case she should rethink her position, as I am quite confident there have been very few children who have gone to WDW and left thinking, gee I hated that!

We all have our reasons why we go to WDW. Some of us here on Laughing Place can't go to Disney as much as we would like due to; money reasons, lack of vacation time and committments.

Everybody's got a Laughing Place. Maybe the writer needs to find her Laughing Place.

The author clearly doesn't have a CLUE, the mushroom risotto at Le Celier was very creative and clearly risotto ;P.

What a miserable person this must be to be around.

The unibomber mentality that all the world is wring on everything is very frightening

<<if you attack the situation early enough, you can program the little dears so that their desires match your very own.>>

Just what we should all hope for: little runts just like ourselves, interested in nothing but what fancies mom and dad. That sounds like a recipe for a fulfilling life.

I'm willing to bet big money that TDLFAN has been to Paris more often.

    Funny anecdote:

I have a relative (an in-law actually), who for many years was really down on all things Disney. This person is a "fine artist" who sepcializes in restoring damaged oil paintings and such.

Somehow, we talker her into bringing the husband and kids into joining us at DLR (in 2002). They of course had never been to DLR or WDW.

So, to make a long story short...she loved it! She was amazed at the level of detail in the architecture, in the queues, etc. She especially loved PotC HM and Splash. Their kids, of course, loved it as well. So did her husband.

The level of intricate detail at DLR is enough to make me want to stand on top of Cinderella's Castle and shout "You Fools! Go West!"

Hey, you want to go to Disney or be a soccer mom fine. What ever gives you enjoyment is fine if it doesn't impede on me having my enjoyment. Disney or soccer?

    Who cares?

Well, apparently she does and we the unwashed just need to be told about our folly. Liking watching soccer is great but Disney is just silly. Thanks for instructing one of the unwashed about priorities in life.

It's a shame when all she knows how to do is talk if that's what you want to call it. I am not saying that you have to give up your life but when you have kids there are sacrifices that you have to make as a parent. You made the decision to have children. Why should your children suffer as a result of your idiocy?
