BK and Beverly Hills

Again, these are based on domain names and a few other sources. Has anyone else heard of such projects? I know that Beastly Kingdom rumors have been around for years, but have sort of ceased recently. And, I haven't read any rumors about Beverly Hills on any of the "trusted" Disney rumor sites. Does anyone have any info. about such attractions?

As for beverly hills...honestly I doubt it. With DHS the question here seems to be how to make this more cohesive. When they announced the name change, I remember something about how the new name reflects how the park has grown and changed since it's opening (Ie just GMR and Backlot tour) and let's face it GMR is basically MGM palooza. As I've been saying, and will continue to, all four parks need TLC, and with the big DCA project going on, I think we'll really only be able to see small changes for a while, and then get wowed as soon as the DCA project is done. I don't have any inside sources, it just doesn't seem sensible to me.... But then of course, when has sense ever played a role in american corporations?

Just out of curiosity, what kind of attractions might they put in a Beverly Hills themed area? Sure, the shopping would put every other theme park to shame, but there really isn't much past that in the real Beverly Hills. Some thoughts/answers:

There will never be a BK section at DAK. That was told to me by a guy named Joe Rohde himself. I'm sure he has a bit of an idea about the future of the park since it has been his baby since the early 1990s when it was conceived.

That doesn't mean you won't see mythical creatures and attractions based upon them. That is what EE and the yeti are all about.

But the BK area as planned will go into history like Tony Baxter's Discovery Bay and, before that, Marc Davis's Thunder Mesa/Western River Expedition as major concepts that never made it.

DAK will be getting a night-time parade called Rivers of Light (not on water despite the title). It's been approved and is being created by Steven Davison, one of the most talented folks in Disney theme park entertainment. I believe it will be debuting in 2009.

As to Beverly Hills ... well, let's just say domains are registered for all sorts of reasons. If Disney did indeed register them it might have to do with anything from a movie, to a TV show, to attractions at DCA ... or even The Park About To Formerly Be Known As The Disney MGM Studios.

I wouldn't read much into it ... yet.

Remember, this is a different Disney company than a few years ago. Old concepts may have been put back on the front burner. John Lasseter is suppose to have a lot more clout now within Imagineering. He answers only to Bob Iger. So, let's think positive, that's the true spirit of Disney.

No, I'm not an Imagineer. It is a fun job though. I know many (although some are ex-Imagineers).

Joe told me a few years back, but he has restated this numerous times to mutual friends.

The BK concept is dead. Yeah, it would have been kewl. But it's not happening.

But, by the same token, moving the concept into things like Everest aren't exactly poor substitutes either. There will be more attractions featuring these creatures that 'never were' ... it just won't be that original conceived land.

Don't worry, as long as Joe has creative control, that park is in great hands ... and, frankly, I think you'll have to pry his hands off it when he's dead many decades from now!

By the way , I thought that taking 20k out and replacing it with the Pooh playground was very insulting to the paying public while admission prices continued to skyrocket.Something big should have been on the drawing boards for that area long before the lagoon was drained and filled in with dirt.Fantasyland already has enough for the stroller crowd. I know you got that from the man who definetly would know. However, I stiil believe that could be the best counter effect against HP over at Universal.

The ideas most recently tossed around for Narnia involve Fantasyland's old lagoon area.

But I don't believe it will happen.

Narnia, while successful, doesn't resonate enough with most folks enough to spent $150-250 million for an attraction.

Very doubtful. There was talk of adding it to DAK, basically where Mickey-Minnie is as a way of 'balancing' the park with Everest on one side of the ToL and Journey on the other.

But I also don't see that happening.

There's always going to be talk in a creative company like Disney, but much of it ends there ... or soon after.
