In fact, Pluto's last theatrical appearance was with Mickey in "The Simple Things" a 1953 Mickey Mouse cartoon and didn't return until "The Prince and the Pauper" in 1990!

(I never understood why he was passed over for "Mickey's Christmas Carol" in 1983!)

Do you have an English to 2ooney dictionary that could explain what you mean, Narkspud?

It can also happen with poopy source material, or a DVD authoring guy who doesn't know what he's doing, but in this case it's a pure instance of quantity over quality.

Splotchiness and noise are the biggest flaws on the cartoon collections. Most folks chalked it up to the condition of the film, but a lot of what you see on those discs is actually a too-low bitrate. Of course, compared with the ghastly transfers that Warner had been using before, just about anything looks better.

I'm *very* persnickety about these things, though---I can't even stand to watch DirectTV or digital cable, which have far worse artifact problems than any of the DVDs we're discussing. YMMV.

    Another issue...
I noticed for the first time that a Pluto bit was completely reused. The flypaper scene from "Playful Pluto" is redone shot for shot in "Beach Picnic" with Donald Duck. The only difference is that it's in color and there are more Pluto sound effects. Other than "Orphan's Benefit" I didn't know they reused stuff on the older shorts like this. Does anybody else have examples?

And just in case you may not be aware of it, "Mother Pluto" was included in the "Silly Symphonies" Walt Disney Treasure DVD.
