With Dumbo, they need humans to play humans as well, since they run the circus and cause his mom to get upset. It would be tough to have both on the stage at the same time and still work with that whole suspension of disbelief thing. Though I guess they made it work in BATB, with the Beast, the enchanted objects, and the wolves...

    Also, the plot of Dumbo doesn't really fit the traditional musical form as well. There are several good songs, but not a ton. The main character doesn't speak, and there is no real huge conflict that needs to be resolved other than the obvious. There's room for subplots, but it would be difficult to weave them all into a bigger story to produce a single theme like they do in Mary Poppins. It's also one of the shortest films Disney ever made (it's not feature length by modern Academy standards), which is a strange choice for a two and a half hour production.

    I'm not saying that there's no way it could ever happen, it's just not the most logical choice. I'm still waiting to see Hunchback...

    i would love to see hunchback as well! they did in germany awhile back with the original story but with the music from the film. they had built the stage to move up and down making different platforms at different levels and they projected images on those for the set. I think mulan would be a good one to turn into a musical as well.
