This rehab was on the public schedules back in June, and privately scheduled for months prior to that. Ed Grier resigned on October 5th, 2009 and George Kalogridis was appointed Disneyland President on October 13th. That was almost two months after the StorybookLand/Casey Jr. rehabs began, so not sure how George K would be 'blamed' for a major scheduled rehab. Speaking with Storybook Leads, the rehab had been in the works for at least the past two years while the project managers and engineers hammered out the needs, exact scope, and calendar for the refurbishment. The rehab was primarily driven by a documented need to replace much of the wood structures that support the Casey trestles, tunnels and tracks. Much of that wood structure, hidden beneath themed coverings and bricks, is original to 1955 when Casey Jr. opened. After 54 years of railroad wear and tear, it was time to go in and replace and repair much of the infrastructure on the track layout. While Casey was down, they are also taking the time to thoroughly rebuild, repair and plus up much of the Show items for both attractions; the miniature houses, show scenes, landscaping, and decorative elements are all being heavily refurbished along the canals. Monstro has been repainted, much of the landscaping has been replaced, the fleet of boats have all been rehabbed and repainted, and new LED lighting fixtures have replaced the original incandescent and flourescent fixtures throughout StorybookLand. It's all going to look great when it reopens November 20th, and the Storybook CM's are chomping at the bit to show it off to people. StorybookLand will still close for parades, but that's about the only time it will close after it comes back up from rehab.

At least I hope not.

I was greatly reminded that DL is still awesome (even if there are too many toons taking over for my liking). But in SLCB and Casey Jr, that's fine. look forward to seeing how they do.

WestSider is right, the original superstructure for the ride system is made of wood. There is nothing there but some tracks built into dirt hills, and plenty of wooden scaffolding and trestles holding the tracks up. It looks scary to our modern eye. No wonder it needs a good, long rehab! Just click on any of these pictures dated '1955' at this link and be amazed. http://davelandweb.com/caseyjr/
