Getting folks who participate on Disney fan sites, such as LaughingPlace, is definitely in TDA's best interests. But how many of the next batch of council members are going to be slanted toward the pin trading bias? TDA needs to step back from the pin trading crutch it's been standing on for the past several years, and return to their "roots" of offering special events that do not revolve around merchandise that hangs from a lanyard. There's nothing inherently wrong with pin trading, per se; I'm just tired of such heavy merch emphasis placed on this activity. And having the official pin trading web site as the main communication venue for council member recruitment appears to be fostering this emphasis even more. There is far, far more to Disney collecting than merely pins. But far too often, those aspects of Disney collecting take a back seat to the pins, at least where the resort merchants and special events producers are concerned. TDA is going to wake up one day and find their pin profits akin to the current state of Rivers of America, and wonder what the heck happened. Sure, it's profitable now (so I assume), but I doubt the popularity will continue without some noticeable decline. Placing such heavy emphasis on pins is laziness on TDA's part, pure and simple. They have received many outstanding suggestions from previous council members (like Fab) over the past several years, some of which have been implemented, but many of which have not. And when all is said and done, the merchants still focus most of their efforts narrowly, and continue down the same ol' path requiring the least amount of effort, like the pin events. Enough is enough is enough! For those of you who apply to the council and are accepted, best wishes in your endeavors. I hope you can get TDA's undivided attention, and help to make a difference. And don't forget to mention Terri Hardin at every opportunity imaginable! Judi
