The Vineyard Room offered fantatstic food and service to match when it was owned and operated by Mondavi back in '01. DCA flopped hard and the big sponsors all fled by Labor Day 2001. Disney food service CM's are simply not up to snuff for the price points they are charging for meals.

If you can deal with unpolished, spotty service with a view of the big ferris wheel and the Monterey wharf-ish food court across the walkway, then go for it. Otherwise, try a real restaurant off property where you'll have a better chance of being served by more polished profesionals who have good management and know how to offer top notch service.

I can't agree with that in terms of the Napa Rose (which hires its own people, I believe). Service has been impeccable. And I think it's been rated the top restaurant in all of Orange County in Zagat's for several years running, hasn't it?

Maybe Napa Rose is an exception, but otherwise, I've not seen any of these places serve well enough for what they charge. I still eat at them, because of their location, and that they are at least pretty good to very good.

But if you are concerned about getting your money's worth, these places are not the ones you want to go to.

That's certainly the case in New York, LA, DC, Philly, Chicago, and I would guess most big cities.

There are some fine hotel restaurants, though, some even worth the money, and I would say the Napa Rose is one of them.

The fact that the server wanted to shake my hand as a welcome was kind of creepy. The view is not very good and when the block party starts, there goes the conversation. I feel bad for the people who have to sit towards the back of the restaurant. It would feel like sitting in a hallway. When the placed first opened and operated by Mondovi it was a whole different world. It used to be great now it is just another expensive restaurant and the one you go to when you can’t get into Napa Rose, the Blue Bayou, Catel, Steakhouse 55, and on and on.

Not just O.C. but all of SoCal (O.C. + L.A. county + S.D.) in Zagat's. Napa Rose is excellent.

I also travel a lot around the country and I have to agree with this statement. It's not just at DL/WDW, but hotel restaurants just cost more and it's sort of random on the quality.

The Trattoria below is way cheaper in service & everything, & a real bummer when you are expecting the other.

We went with some friends & had resorvations for the Vinyard Room. I don't know if they still do this, but for whatever reason, they used to have a hostess at the bottom of the stairs for the Trattoria. We thought it was the Vinyard Room so we gave her our name for the reservation.

She couldn't find our name & even got her supervisor to look. Then they just seated us downstairs. It was such an aweful experience. Bad service, bad food.

After the meal, we couldn't help but notice people were walking upstairs, My mom & her friend went upstairs to check it out, & come back pretty ticked off telling us, "that is an entirely different restaurant".

Of course we complained at that moment. I don't know what brain-dead person didn't assume we may have had reservations for "upstairs" when she couldn't find our name...they gave us cheese & wine & let us watch the Electrical Parade from the little patio. I didn't think that was a good enough compensation at all, but whatever.

Just make sure you get upstairs. Maybe they have better sign now or something.

I certainly don't know all of the details, but I'm inclined to think that they properly compensated you. What would you have proposed?

The sign over the restaurant entrance that says "Wine Country Trattoria" didn't tip you off? The menus that say "Wine Country Trattoria" didn't tip you off?

Yes, the hostess should have asked which restaurant you had reservations for when you didn't show up on her list. But there's a big chunk of this that is your responsibility. You can't just blame it all on the CM's.

You have some responsibility here too. :)

It was a long time ago, that's why I said maybe they have changed things since then.

I also wasn't the one who made the reservations & had no idea what the name of the restaurant was. I don't think anyone in our party was aware there were 2 restaurants. If you don't know, it really seems like only one building. Except for Club 33, there are no buildings that are 2 restaurants in the entire resort. If your not looking for 2 names, you probably don't notice. We had never eaten there before & DCA was pretty new.

I do remember however, that the only hostess around was the one who couldn't find our name.

The entire point to the story is that I just wanted to tell people, at least back then, it's easy to make a mistake where you end up. If you have reservations, chances are your looking for a more than "casual" experience. I just couldn't believe that she in no way made it clear that there were 2 seperate restaurants. The first initial response should have been, "your names aren't here, perhaps upsatirs..."

<<I certainly don't know all of the details, but I'm inclined to think that they properly compensated you. What would you have proposed?>>

I didn't express it above, but they acted like it was no big deal, we just missed dinner. Yes, they did offer us something, but anyone who wanted to could sit on the patio & watch the parade. It was their 10th year anniversary dinner & we wanted to celebrate in a nice way. They probably did do what they could. It was just an all around bummer, that's all.

Yes, but if not one person in all of 7 adults & 4 children can not figure it out(not including the hostess & her supervisor), somethings not quite right...
