Appaerntly, the country is in its worst financial shape since the Great Depression (at least W is leaving us with something since he never did get Osama or victory in Iraq) and WDW is aiming to get hit very hard unless some financial god rescues us all.

Time to play the layoff and cutback game ...

WDW is considered a great deal by most travel experts for fall vacations. I'm headed upstate myself soon (although to be fair I'm also doing HHNs at Uni and going to Sea World and Aquatica).

The sad thing is someone like myself will notice every little cutback or money grab the Mouse is pulling when I am there and that will affect the magic for me.

I realized how bad the economy had gotten when I went to a major national salad bar spot (Sweet Tomatos in the East, Soup Plantation on the West coast for those scoring at home tonight) and despite paying $25 for two people to eat ... well, mostly salad, I was floored that in an effort to cut costs and help the bottom line that the restaurant had removed iceberg lettuce from the buffet line (leaving just the much cheaper romaine) ... people were complaining (a few loud enough that they were given a few scoops of the real lettuce) but all just paid and accepted it ... I said to my dining companion that was a move so ballsy that it was worthy of Disney!

I have no idea which is cheaper, but i do know iceberg has nearly no nutritional value but causes the release of endorphins so hamsters will eat it and die (though happy) from malnourishment.

Probably because they refuse to eat iceberg.

And here in South Jersey, Romaine is more expensive than iceberg.

However the produce market is extremely volatile and at times iceberg can be more expensive but this is not the norm. For example last week a wholesale case of romaine was $38 and Iceberg was $22. Today they are much closer with Romaine at $26 and Iceberg at $22. Wow, I never thought I would be talking about produce prices on these boards. Oh and the reason Manatees are fed mostly romaine is because it is most similar in composition to plants they consume in the ocean not becuae of the price.

But for years whenever I am in the grocery store, iceberg is always more expensive then romaine. At least by the head.

I could go do more research on it, but it isn't that important.

When Disney took iceberg out of most of its salads years ago and replaced it with mixed greens and weeds it was told to me it was being done as costsaver, so that has also been in the back of my head.

In other words, I'm not convinced ... but I am hungry!
