Looking at the numbers for the virus it looks like we will not get a reopening until 2021 - spring?? Come one people ware a mask. It's not that big of a deal.
If we were facing the Spanish Flu today, it would be relatively trivial. If we had faced COVID-19 a century ago, there wouldn't have been enough living left to bury the dead.
What is surprising to me is the people thinking it should be open with the numbers up like they are. I guess...I dunno, if I missing a Mr. Toad ride keeps someone else's grandma alive, Im okay with never riding the damn thing again. That being said I also put spiders and bugs I find in the house outside. Our priorities are jacked up in this country. And this has been grandpa telling the kids to get off my lawn.
Disneyland being closed is one of the hardest things for me to grasp. If that doesn't make it clear how serious this is; nothing will. I am one of those grandmas who hopes others will take this seriously. No! I am not willing to die so my grandchildren can inherit a good economy! As long as gathering in large crowds that are packed together is the most dangerous thing; I can't see a safe way to open. I will watch my Mr Toad video.
The thing I am having the most difficulty grasping is why Californian government isn't reaching out to the larger entertainment based companies to find out how to assist the THOUSANDS of employees that are out of work because of theme parks being closed. I have been reading the Trip Reports over on wdwmagic.com to see how WDW is working things out. For the most part people are being compliant with the rules, and they do have CM's enforcing said rules. There are, of course, those that push the limit that makes things unsafe for others by not wearing their masks appropriately and not physically distancing in lines. I will admit that I am definitely going through Disney withdrawals, but the safety of the many outweighs my want to be in my happy place. I wish I could figure out who to contact to send me one of these beauties...that might tide me over a bit.
Sometimes feel like Newsome is doing great job considering his obstacles. Every time they push reopenings; things spike. There definitely needs to be more help at state and federal levels.
What do you mean, "sometimes"? And he's not facing "obstacles"; he's being bullied by those who put profits ahead of lives. I'd make a comment about the shape of the confection pictured in posts 7 and 8, but this is a family board.
Here's a question for you though...when does the health of a few outweigh the financial burden that many are facing in that area that depend upon Disney or Knott's? It would be a choice for people to go to the parks if they feel it is safe, and I realize that Newsome would put a few other standards on there to make it safer too. I believe he was talking about only those within a 120 mile radius (or specific counties) being able to attend the parks, and Disney would also have a reservation process in place like WDW to ensure they do not go above 25% capacity (or whatever they set). Give people a choice to be in that type of setting, and give CM's the opportunity to get back on their feet financially. The hotels on Harbor and Katella are dying...specifically The Candy Cane Inn and Alpine Inn which are owned by families (not the hotel conglomerates). To keep things closed for another six months would be a drastic strain on those that are already at the end of their ropes financially. I work for a paratransit system in Portland, and our ridership is down at least 80% now after our restrictions have lessened. I believe the people that are more at risk are being smart and continuing to stay home unless it's necessary. I would like to think that those in Orange County are that kind of smart too, but it doesn't seem they have the opportunity to show their governor that they are. Don't get me wrong...there are times that I definitely think Governor Brown is an idiot, and I'm really afraid of what it's going to look like around here after the election regardless of the outcome. She has done some things right too...and I'm sure the same goes for Newsome.
Yes! Those are the obstacles to which I was referring. Hey! It's a representation of the Matterhorn that's all. I can suffer Covid fatigue as well as the next guy. Watching my daughter and her kids struggle with balancing remote classes (them learning and her teaching) along with usual family life has helped me realize what so many are going through. I am so tired of people who don't really understand, complaining. My daughter is putting in far more hours than she is paid for. I wish I had magic answers but I don't so I will "listen to scientists!!" and try to stay safe.
I have to vent just a little. I just read a list of rules for Thanksgiving in California with ridiculous comments. They are guidelines meant to help people stay safe. From what I read; there is no mandate just suggestions. But the yahoos were calling him a dictator. Go figger.
Right. Gavin Newsom is trying to save people's lives, and he's a dictator. Somebody else is bullying him into putting profits ahead of lives (or at least, ahead of the lives of the born), and that guy's not a dictator?
