    BAD!

Having seen all the positive reviews, I got all curious, and against my better judgement, ordered it from Netflix. Amazingly, it showed up today, and even more amazingly, it doesn't suck. In fact, it clears the suck bar with plenty of room to spare.

It's not near as good as the original (which is one of my two or three fave Disney features ever), but it is a decent direct-to-video sequel, certainly worthy of a rental at least. Mostly (though not entirely) excellent animation, a mostly (though not entirely) intelligent script, they stayed true to the characters and kept them on-model, they blew some extra money on licensing of Elvis songs and a non-Disney movie clip--in short, they really tried hard on this one artistically and financially, and it shows. It beats the pants off of any of the other DisneyToon productions I've suffered through. (I didn't even like Lion King 1 1/2 that much.) And I laughed out loud about 5 times, which is more than Valiant and Madagascar combined.

In case you didn't hear, it contains a few scenes that are more intense than the usual sequel fluff, and if a youngster is having trouble with the life-and-death concept, this flick is not going to help AT ALL. Parental guidance is suggested, but I for one am happy to see them do a flick with some good ol' fashioned psyche-damaging meat in it. It makes things more unpredictable, and thus (gasp!) more interesting. What next? A movie about a baby deer whose mother's been shot?

Looks like Disney Australia has finally come into its own, and we can expect some great things from them in the future. Oh wait . . . .

Over on the ultimatedisney.com forum, before the video was released, people were whining and moaning about replacing Daveigh Chase with Dakota Fanning. I thought she did a terrific job.

The hovercraft scene with the dolphins was very cool...

We've been used to this for a long time, but given the economy of late, I'm not surprised. Months ago, we would have seen this DVD offered for $14.99.

I didn't like Dakota Fanning's voice as much as Daveigh Chase, but it was great.

So all in all, I really enjoyed it, not quite as good as the original, but still one of the best sequels to come out of Disney in awhile.

As I said, Ihaven't seen either one but it does give from my POV a idea of how Dakot and Daveigh could be interechangable sometimes..

Good to hear, it should be expected from Disney for that to happen but unfortunately it's not really the case with the sequels ...

So what was the reason behind the Lilo voice change?

I have NO idea what you said in your post, but I think the Jennifer Connelly movie you're thinking of is "Dark Water."

"at the time, i was just getting started voicing the new tv series, thankfully these writers & producers really understand voice acting, and knew that my voice would not change too much at all, and actually, i can still voice lilo now and probably will be able to when i'm 50.

"i only just finished up the tv series a couple months ago! i also started a recording for a new dvd last year, it will be released next year in 2006 called leroy & stitch, and i have seen it and have to say that it is AMAZING!
it will definitely not disappoint any l&s fans! i am really excited about it, i liked it as much if not more than the original."
