    Thanks for your help!

The negative thing about this was how FAR we were from the entrance into downtown Disney (I know, you wouldn't think so being right over WOD!!!). To get out in the morning we went out the stairs nearby which came out right next to La Brea Bakery, so that was fine.
But, coming back to the room from Disneyland was pretty far. We had to walk all the way down to where Libby Lu is/was, which is the entrance to the Grand. Then in throught the lobby and back out, past the pools, into another building to the elevator, up to our floor on the elevator then down a hall, turn right and down another hall.

I swear it would have been closer to stay at the Disneyland hotel!

But then the Little Mermaid/Route 66 work will start around the same time, so any south facing view will have construction for at least a year.

I was told that it will be a view of DCA or of the pool and not guaranteed to be an upper level room. So, I will need to specifically request an upper level theme park view away from construction with two beds to hopefully get a room of our liking. After not being specific about my room in the past, I've learned the hard way to make requests and be specific - being assertive as I get older. Thanks again I really appreciate your input.

We had friends staying in the Standard room and it was just off the Lobby on the second level. very easy to get to. I would take the ease of getting to the room over the view next time.

The location was actually more important to us and the CM (VERY CRANKY CM) checked in the back and was able to move us.

Also, sometimes they will put you in a room because it's available right then. Just let them know that you are willing to wait and will they please check to see what else will be available.

We are always polite with our requests and questions. Only once did we get Miss Cranky.

Good to know about making requests. We are planning another visit in September to stay at GCH again. It's about $85 more a night than PPH, and DH thinks it's worth the extra. We'd do the DLH but they are booked the week we're planning on.

should I call the hotel directly?

    Good luck.
