Breaking news from another liberal news source.

    I'm sure they're wrong.

Tom DeLay is a stand up guy, totally ethical, who wants to spend more time with his family, and pursue other interests, right?

Overall, there's no time for this to play out when the 2006 elections is just around the corner.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Whenever I post sources, the liberals get just as charged up when the sources appear conservative.

My best guess is he'll be sentenced to prison before the november elections. And no matter what the evidence, bush supporters will still think he's a 'stand-up' guy who was unjustly brought down by the democrats - even though he's being convicted in a texas courtroom by a republican prosecutor.

    It's so unfair.

Hardly. I'd say it's as least likely that Earle is found guilty of prosecutorial misconduct as Delay is found guilty.

Delay has been indicted by a Democrat prosecutor from Travis County, the most liberal county in Texas.

Gadzuux, want to bet a thousand dollars on this if it's such a sure bet. You know you don't really think you will win, otherwise take the bet and get back to me. :)

I think it is extremely unlikely that Delay will ever see the inside of a prison or that he will even go through a trial. Unless his lawyers manage to succeed at finding some loophole to get the charges dropped, I think he most likely will end up pleading guilty and accepting some combination of a fine, suspended sentence, and/or community service.

At some point, he will very likely come up with some excuse for deciding not to run for re-election, mainly in order to avoid the embarassment of the Republican party's likely decision not to back him. If he gets too deeply embroiled in the Abramoff mess, he might end up having to resign.

Regardless, I would imagine that by the end of this year he will either be "writing" a book, giving expensive lectures, or hosting a talk show...

With Abramoff, all five talking heads on McLaughlin this morning agreed this was a major scandal - the largest congressional scandal in a quarter century they said - that will likely net a half dozen or so Republican congressmen, and threaten more in November because of the general stench. Many more than that, of both parties, took money directly or indirectly, but it's these 6 or so Republicans who seem the most likely to go down because of the more direct quid pro quos that can be shown with them. Many others who received money will be able to claim ignorance to one degree or another, or say that Abramoff received nothing in return for his money, and in some cases that may even be true. But about 6 Republicans are in real trouble. Ney is pretty much toast already. These McLaughlin guys have pretty good contacts in DC, so if even the conservatives are saying this is big problem, it's probably a big problem.

More and more, and now especially with this Abramoff thing, there's growing public discontent with the Republican party. Of the three Senate races Rasmussen is reporting polls about for January 2006, Dems lead all of them. While Abramoff will apparently snag bodies on both sides of the aisle, the GOP stands to lose more, both in numbers and reputation. Wouldn't surprise me if they go into full negative attack mode very soon, which will only serve to turn off more voters. Either way, they better remember that Bill Clinton and John Kerry are NOT relevant to the discussion, especially since they're not running.

"WASHINGTON – The Republican-run Justice Department is setting its sights on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign in pursuit of possible fund-raising violations. In targeting a rising star in the Democratic Party, prosecutors are trying to gain the cooperation of an indicted businessman who raised the allegations, interviews and documents indicate."

"The FBI has told a U.S. magistrate in Los Angeles it has evidence the former first lady's campaign deliberately understated its fund-raising costs so it would have more money to spend on elections, and prosecutors allege one of her fund-raisers helped because he wanted a pardon from her husband."

Yeah, that'll make Delay less guilty.

I'm hoping to win the lottery.
