These took on a life of their own and gave us Christianity.

And yet, 2000 years after his birth, 2/3 of the world is not Christian.

Hmmmmm. I would have guessed that a team as supposedly divine and omnipotent as Jesus' wouldn't be thwarted by something as ephemeral as local culture.

These are the imponderables of faith.

To get to the other planet.

Actually, I think because he was looking for a way to offload a bunch of automobile fish decals. He had a whole warehouse full.

But, I suspect the true answer is because he loves us.

Second, Christ served as an example, showing us the way to live. Along with that, His teachings also give us guidance on the right way to live.
Thirdly, Adam brought sin and death into the world. (We can have a discussion on the fall later, why it was an important step, and couldn't be skipped.) Anyway, sin and death are in the world now. With the Atonement (the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and everything that came after until his death) Christ paid the price, the natural consequences, of all that sin. He took this sin and suffering upon himself and we no longer have to suffer all the natural consequences of our own sin. Instead we pay the price he demands, as he is the new holder of the debt: repentance. This atonement also has the power to help us change, really change who we really are, for the better. It's hard work, but it's possible.
Fourthly, after his death he was able to take back his own body, to be resurrected. This is something that none of the rest of us, not being half divine, would have been able to do. However, now that he has cleared the way, all of God's creations can be resurrected.
So, that's my answer as I understand it. I'm curious if any of the other denominations of Christians have a different answer for this question.
