Well lookie what we have here. It turns out Democrats aren't the only ones with a candidate whose pastor preached some questionable sermons. The only difference is that Obama rejected his pastor's comments, while Palin seems to have embraced them.

She called the Iraq War a "task from God," and, from the article on her church:

    >>But Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode."<<

Regardless of what you think of the Iraq War, I don't want someone a heartbeat away from the Presidency who thinks it's a "task from God." Who knows what else she'll think God wants her to do. We've had President for 8 years who thinks God put him in charge and it's been a fiasco.

Yeah, but he's not telling you who to vote for!

And for those of us (like me, BTW) who don't think people should be held responsible for what OTHER people say, here's something from Palin herself:

(referring to a pipeline project she wanted built): "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said. Who knew God was a utility guy?

I doubt the kid is currently pregnant. I believe she WAS pregnant. Why else would a 44 year old college graduate take an 11-hour risk to fly home to Alaska from Texas when her amniotic fluid starting leaking one month before her due date, to give birth in a hospital with no neo-natal care unit? She's over forty and thousands of miles from home and has early signs of a potentially complicated birth yet she stubbornly refused to ditch the speaking gig in Texas and then insisted on flying home to Alaska because she said she refused to have her baby in Texas? Yeah, right. I'm guessing her daughter went into labor and she hightailed her butt back to Alaska.

I believe this whole pregnancy announcement scheme over the weekend was cooked up to take the focus off the internet stories that were hitting closer to the truth each day. Anyone with half a brain could see that even if Palin was the one who was pregnant, her actions regarding the speech in Texas paint her as only caring for her political career with little to no concern for her health or the health of her child.

If her amniotic fluid was actually leaking in the early morning hours before her speech as she claimed, then she should have checked herself into a Texan hospital after the speech and played it safe, instead of hopping on a flight to Seattle then wait for another flight to Alaska to end up in a medical facility ill equipped to handle neonatal complications. Dumb does not begin to describe this kind of behavior.

Palin is either a big idiot or a big liar. It's a tough call.

Perhaps the people sitting in this pastor's church really are stupid enough to believe him too. But that means they're especially dim.

Does anybody remember why churches enjoy tax free status? Since they're determined to influence political elections, perhaps the time has come to tax them like any other business.

You can always come back with pithy, brilliant retorts such as

    "Yes he is."

    "You're wrong."

    "Prove it."

"Those 187 links you provided don't prove anything."

"That's not how I read it."

    and

"Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah not listening not listening!"

The part I found particularly intriguing was this:

    >>"Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.

Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article.

In 1996, Ms. Palin suggested to the local paper, The Frontiersman, that the conversations about banning books were “rhetorical.”

Ms. Emmons was not the only employee to leave. During her campaign, Ms. Palin appealed to voters who felt that city employees under Mr. Stein, who was not from Wasilla and had earned a degree in public administration at the University of Oregon, had been unresponsive and rigid regarding a new comprehensive development plan. In turn, some city employees expressed support for Mr. Stein in a campaign advertisement.

Once in office, Ms. Palin asked many of Mr. Stein’s backers to resign — something virtually unheard of in Wasilla in past elections. The public works director, city planner, museum director and others were forced out. The police chief, Irl Stambaugh, was later fired outright.

Mr. Stambaugh lost a wrongful termination lawsuit against Ms. Palin. He did not respond to a request for an interview.

Ms. Palin also upended the town’s traditional ways with a surprise edict: No employee was to talk to the news media without her permission."<<

Wow, she fired or forced a lot of people out of positions, then passed a law that they weren't allowed to talk to the media about it.

Shakeups, firings, and all kinds of shenanigans happen all the time when there's a new sheriff in town..so I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Book banning though, that's scary (if true).

Read the article, and you will find that Palin started attending this church when she was 12. That would be about 1976. (Is my math right?) She attended until 2002, when she took her family to another church.

The odious Rev. Kalnins arrived in 1999. So. After spending some 30 years in this church, Palin leaves three years after this guy starts preaching politics and his own version of the "word of knowledge."

    >>The only difference is that Obama rejected his pastor's comments, while Palin seems to have embraced them.<<

Uh, no. Obama, who stayed with Rev. Wright and Trinity for TWENTY YEARS disavowed him only when it became crystal clear he was a political liability. Palin, on the other hand, left the Rev. Kalnin and his rather odd form of Christanity after three years, despite the fact that this was her church from childhood.

Smoke and mirrors are a vital element of any funhouse, but it's odd when the guests carry them in themselves.
