She listens to no one, McCain advisers or even her family, per this source, and is looking out "only for herself.

    A choice quote:

"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.

"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

But then, the Palin camp more or less cops to it:

"A Palin associate defended her, saying that she is "not good at process questions" and that her comments on Michigan and the robocalls were answers to process questions.

But this Palin source acknowledged that Palin is trying to take more control of her message, pointing to last week's impromptu news conference on a Colorado tarmac."

I particularly like the part how they say she is "not good at process questions", whatever the hell that means.

The article is very interesting, and simply confirms what we've said and predicted all along: Palin was a horrendous choice. This pollster sums it up:

"With the presidential race in its final days and polls suggesting that McCain's chances of pulling out a win are growing slim, Palin may be looking after her own future.

"She's no longer playing for 2008; she's playing 2012," Democratic pollster Peter Hart said. "And the difficulty is, when she went on 'Saturday Night Live,' she became a reinforcement of her caricature. She never allowed herself to be vetted, and at the end of the day, voters turned against her both in terms of qualifications and personally."

I said it immediately after McCain picked this broad: Welcome to President Obama.

Said one: "She's lost confidence in most of the people on the plane. I think she'd like to go more rogue."

"The emergence of a Palin faction comes as Republicans gird for a battle over the future of their party: Some see her as a charismatic, hawkish conservative leader with the potential, still unrealized, to cross over to attract moderate voters. Anger among Republicans who see Palin as a star and as a potential future leader has boiled over because, they say, they see other senior McCain aides preparing to blame her in the event he is defeated.">>

Its getting ugly out there people ;). Christ if Mccain and company actually win this thing, it will be the biggest upset in political history.

Yeah, what in the hell *does* that mean?

I do think Palin will be blamed for McCain losing. Maybe his campaign wouldn't have gotten so ugly if he hadn't been so stupid to pick her as his running mate. (Ultimately still his choice but Palin is where things started to go downhill.)

I think it is good that Palin is speaking her mind instead of just barfing up the stuff in the 700 page briefing book. If McCain felt he had to muzzle her he shouldn't have picked her in the first place. GO PIT BULL!!

Palin immediately appealed to the far-right base; that, and her gender, are the reasons she was picked. But after a sort of grace period where moderates were willing to give her a fair chance and take a look at her, she lost them. They took a look and didn't like what they saw. The polls show that she has very little appeal outside the far right, and is officially a drag on the ticket.

But the thing is, she's gotten so much adulation from the base so quickly, I think it's gone to her head. She really thinks she's presidential material for 2012. If she tries it (and this presupposes that she isn't convicted of anything in Troopergate, which is far from a gimme), I think she'll find herself in Dan Quayle territory; another guy who definitely had his partisans on the far right, but who found it hard to be taken seriously by anyone else. He didn't win a single primary.

And if she thinks people have been tough on her this year, wait till her fellow GOP presidential aspirants have at her. They won't be shy about it. You think Mitt Romney is going to let her take away what, to his mind, is rightfully HIS?

I hope she does take herself off the leash and "go rogue" in the next week. It should be entertaining, if nothing else.

I deliberately used the term, knowing someone would say something. Turns out it was you.

Things is, it's an accurate usage of the term. No further explanation needed.

I am not a Republican, but I sincerely hope that party can regroup and focus on what is actually important to Americans without treating them as if they we were all retarded. If they could muster better candidates on their side, it would only serve to increase the competence on the Democrat side.

As it is, the Democrats probably could put just about anybody up there to beat McPain. Thankfully, Obama is fairly strong. But who knows what could happen down the road should the Republicans continue to promote Palin types.

    >>His team is bracing itself for an 8,200-word article in tomorrow's New York Times magazine about the McCain inner circle, based on interviews with half-a-dozen top advisers. Arguments within the camp range from the message to be pursued in the final stretch to whether it was a blunder to appoint Sarah Palin as his running-mate.<<

To me this just says that she's not as clueless as people have made her out to be. I wouldn't have confidence in the people on the plane either if I were her. She may not ever be President, but her political career would be in much better shape now if she'd never associated herself with this McCain debacle.

I 'spect her future will depend entirely on whether the GOP can patch things up, or remains permanently split between the conservatives with sense and the conservatives with Dobson.
