    From the article:

"The demand for palm oil is rising in the U.S. and Europe because it is touted as a "clean" alternative to fuel. Indonesia is the world's top producer of palm oil, and prices have jumped by almost 70 percent in the last year."

    and...

"Trees are being cut at a rate of 300 football fields every hour. And massive land-clearing fires have turned the country into one of the top emitters of carbon."

What good is there in saving the planet when you destroy it in the process???

Of course. However, the biofuel movement is not the right answer. It is leading to starvation, destruction of the environment (including the most sensitive and beautiful palces in the world) and there is ample evidence that the carbon footprint of the process to create biofuels is bigger than the carbon footprint of (gasp) oil.

And yet the politicians continue to push biofuels as there answer to the world's energy problems.

    It's very frustrating.

But Biofuels aren't BAD, we are just using the wrong resources to make them. Whose idea was it to put our food in the tank of our cars!?! Dumba$$. Now if we were processiong garbage and sewage into fuels, that would be a different story. Solving multiproblems at once.
