His friends were outside with him but must have been in shock. DS dragged himself out of the enclosure, off the trampoline and in the house.

It was pretty traumatic for all of us- he had to be mediflighted to the nearest big city ( 90 miles away). He made it through surgery and they think there is just minimal damage to the growth plates. The x-ray is freaky- looks like his foot is sitting next to his leg. He's not in too much pain yet but he's pretty down. He's very athletic ( his baseball team won state last summer) and he's looking at 6-9 month rehab. That also means no football. I told him things could be much worse, but that is hard for an 11 y.o. to see right now.

If you're a praying person, please keep him in your prayers.

A compound fracture of both bone? Holy cow. A professional hockey player went down with a fractured fibula. If he was screaming on the ice, I can just imagine how it's got to hurt an 11 year old.

He's in my prayers. And he'll pull through this. Didn't you have a Disneyland trip coming up? How will this affect that? At least he'll get to ride in a wheel chair!

We have a Disney Make a Wish trip coming up sometime ( it hasn't been set yet)- I told him everybody would think he was the wish kid. We are also going to DL first of August. He'll be walking some by then but I'm sure he'll still need a wheelchair.

You should point out the upsides to him, he's bound to get spoilt by family and friends, and won't have to clean his room for a while ;)

fingers are crossed for a quick recovery, they come back quick at that age!

It is hard being so far away from all of his friends and the rest of the family. Hopefuflly he'll get to go home tomorrow. He just found out his leg is going to be non weight bearing for a couple of months. He keeps playing basketball in his sleep-then he wakes up and tears up.

Get well vibes zooming his way. It sounds like a long healing time looking ahead like that, but hope it seems to pass quicker than he is expecting it to.

All my positive thoughts are with him and I hope he heals well as quickly as poss.

The doctor said he was very lucky that he didn't lose his foot. He said when he saw the x-ray he thought he would lose the foot ( glad we didn't know that ahead of time!) but amazingly the nerves and blood vessels were all intact.
