The Hunger Games! YES! Very much looking forward to Mockingjay Part I in about nine weeks.

I skipped every other chapter, just reading the story part. I got a 96 out of 100 on the test. This class was taught by a teacher who at times was more impatient than her students for the day to end. Every once in a while she'd exclaim "C'mon clock!" exhorting it to move faster and get the day over with sooner.

Really these are mostly all "challenged" books, and the American Library Association uses that term since it's actually very rare that a book gets all-out banned. People complain, but more often than not common sense prevails and the good guys win. I do a lesson with my students about challenged books when I teach Of Mice and Men, which is an off challenged book. Probably top ten of all time. It's my favorite book to teach though, and talking about what makes a book banned is a good way to address the very authentic language, the use of swearing and the n-word. In part of the lesson I pull out books that have been challenged and it's fun to see their reactions of bafflement. When I show the Shel Silverstein's "Where the Sidewalk Ends" they go positively apoplectic.
