A new poll shows that 60% of Americans believe no one is winning in Iraq. Only 20% believe the U.S. is winning - down by half from a year ago. 18% believe the insurgents are winning - a statistical tie with those who believe the U.S. is winning.

Only 18%? The insurgents will always be there - we won't. They live there - we don't. We cannot kill them all - it's like the hydra, for every head you lop off, two more appear.

When the day finally comes that we leave, they'll shoot their guns and dance in the streets and burn american flags and declare victory against the imperial american occupiers. And they'll be right.

This could happen today, tomorrow or the next day. But it won't. Hundreds and thousands more will die and be horribly maimed - then it will happen.

Immediately afterward, the shiite militias will crush the sunni militias who are vastly outnumbered. The shiites will align with the mullahs of iran and iraq will become a muslim theocracy, with the kurds to the north having some level of autonomy.

All those lives and all that money and all of the effort - and nothing to show for it. It's pointless. And the legacy of the bush administration will be of the biggest failure in our nation's history. A legacy of opportunity squandered. And an all time lowpoint of integrity and honesty.

But hey - the money found it's way to the "right people" and nothing's more important than that.

Tomorrow's news today. You heard it here first.
