I really suggest that everyone, ESPECIALLY republicans watch it. It is the stuff that I was telling you about that was going on around here in WV. And while I know it is rural, (and I would perfer that you uppity big city la-ti-das not refer to rural America as Backwater. We perfer "The REAL America"), that really is no excuse for the ignorance of those in your oparty. And I will take a group of Deadheads over the KKK anyday.

It's one big happy crazy country! Nobody is saying the there aren't crazy idiots who support the Republican party. There are. There are KKK members, there are other racists, there are horrible people who fight for the conservative side. But don't call it THE BASE. But to say those kind of freaks don't exist on the Liberal/Democrat side is just willfully ignorant.

Even though I'm a registered Republican, right back at ya. True Republicans need to take a step back and re-assess. They lost this last election for a reason. Or two, or three. This refusal to do a bit of self-examination and instead go on the attack will ensure defeat as far as the eye can see.

"Our opinions are equally valid and equally tenable!" There's simply no point in offering valid criticism anymore because the new mantra is, "Oh yeah! You do it to!" The refusal to see that maybe, just maybe, there is a difference between these parties viability got tiresome. But now, I think I'll embrace it with open arms. This Republican refusal to take a step back, as SPP noted, will just ensure their failure for the foreseeable future. It's a shame that it has to be like this, because our country is better off with two healthy political parties. But healthy is the key word, and the Republican party couldn't be less healthy. Let's review: -McCain's campaign flounders until the selection of an intellectually incurious evangelical who thinks dinosaurs and humans co-existed. She can't name newspapers she's read, she doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is, etc. On and on it goes. And Republicans love her and she's the top pick for 2012 right now. But we'll hear about how that's just the crazies. Sure. Because only the margins propel someone to the top of the polls. Gotcha. -Republican Congressman Phil Gingrey has to publicly apologize to Rush Limbaugh after telling him to shut up. We may look back on those couple of days as a key nail in the Republican coffin for the foreseeable future. The Republican party had a choice. Become relevant again with a concern over fiscal conservatism and conservative foreign policy, or continue to let crazies like Rush "I Hope Obama Fails" Limbaugh dictate the party's beliefs. They decided to stick with their social issues, even as Americans become less concerned with them, and their obstructionism. Good luck with that. -Mike Barnacle nailed it on Hardball the other night. Ever since people have been fighting wars when they threw rocks at each other, taxes went up and sacrifices were made to pay for it. For the first time in history, a President decided to fight a two-front war and lower taxes. He ended his term with the largest deficit in history. He had Republican support every step of the way. But NOW Republicans are crying and whining about mortgaging our kids' future. Americans (thankfully) aren't buying it. (Oh, and I love the irony. After LPers are throwing around terms like "Obama the Messiah" and when pressed for a source, reference a handful of nutjobs on the left, now when someone posts something about right-wing crazies, it's just all so pointless because both sides do it. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander, apparently.) But nope, both parties are the same, I tells ya. Sure, Obama's approval rating is still high. Sure, historians just rated FDR the third-best President, current Republicans efforts at revisionist history to make the New Deal a failure aside. Sure a majority of Americans want the stimulus package. Sure, Obama's loved overseas while Bush was loathed. But hey, it's all the same. SNL nailed the current state of the Republican party: http://www.hulu.com/watch/5794...p1-st-i2

For what it's worth, for the most part, I didn't tell many people where I live (in Los Angeles, a quite civilized city) that I supported McCain for the exact same reason. Sure, the odds of someone physically attacking me were very low, but I definately recieved a lot of hostility from people (many of them my good friends and even roommates) for simply supporting the 'wrong' candidate. Not to do the broken record thing, but it definatley works both ways. "I can show you what the GOP base around here is like. And I am so FRICKIN' sick of listening to their racist crap it makes me want to puke." Speaking of broken records, have you considered moving? You clearly don't like living in West Virginia, as it has surfaced as a major complaint of yours in many many topics. If you are really as miserable as you make it sound, why don't you go somewhere else? I know it's fun to sit around and complain (it's one of my favorite hobbies too), but you don't seem to really enjoy complaining about WV. If I were you, I would definately check into moving elsewhere.
