So far my first comment is wow, I hope Nacy Polosi was just having an off night, because that speech was just so... well... non-inspiring? I don't know, the delivery was just off somehow.

On a purely entertainment sort of level I did enjoy the speeches of Oboma's sister and Jesse Jackson Jr.

    Anyone else following this?

I thought it was a pretty good speech (great, given the circumstances).

I think that's why Democrats are so enamored with Obama. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid aren't exactly orators in the vein of Lincoln or FDR. They might be good politicians and good senators, but they're mighty boring.

I guess there is some drama with the protesters but in general I have no reason to watch it. I know who is going to be nominated by the party and I know who the VP is. What is there left to say?

It is illegal right now for my son to even shoot off his model rocket and all model airplanes have also been grounded. They've shut down several of the railroad runs where DH works and no vehicles carrying hazardous waste are allowed to travel through Denver on I-25. During the acceptance speech, I-25 will be completely shut down for four hours. They've already closed several streets downtown. There are so many helecopters flying over I keep waiting for the Apocalypse Now theme to start playing!

I'm glad I'm heading to Disneyland on Wednesday!!!

All conventions are staged. Always have been.

Caroline Kennedy made the rounds of the networks after her uncle's speech and said that his wife and doctor told him not to go to Denver. When he was driven to the loading dock at the convention, she said he was put in a golf cart. She confirmed that he acknowledged no one, just sitting in his seat, staring straight ahead. People thought by looking at him he had no business being there. They got him a stool for the podium, but once he got up there, he suddenly came to life, almost literally. They were amazed, because he hadn't shown that much vitality or energy since before he was diagnosed.

His politics aside, what he did was remarkable for anyone with the kind of aggressive brain tumor he's got. I have to admire the guy for it, because it was obvious he summoned all he could for his last hurrah. He apparently felt he owed it to his brothers, much less the Democratic party, to make this speech while he could. Like him or not, it was one of the more dramatic moments in modern politics.

They are being let go early on Thursday, so they can get out before they shut down the freeway. DH takes a bus, and he said that, for the first time, when the bus merged from the bus lane to the main freeway, there was no slowdown. Apparently, people are staying away because they think it will be a mess.
