Maybe if the mayor spent less time criticizing NYC and more time worrying about his city, he wouldn't continually make himself look like an idiot.

You know what happens when you assume.

It was this other outfit that was contacted by the bogus guy and told that Sec. Jackson wanted to speak there, and therefore if anyone should have checked things out, it was them. One can lay many things at Nagin's door, but I don't think this is of them. "William Loiry, president of meeting sponsor Equity International, said he was duped. "We were contacted about a week ago or so by someone who we believed to be [public relations firm] Hill & Knowlton [saying] that they were representing the HUD secretary and that he wanted to make a major announcement at this summit." Loiry said he was told a few minutes before he had planned to introduce Jackson that the secretary would be replaced by Oswin."

After 72 hours New Orleans didn't become a "Federal Government Possession". Sure the Federal Government needed to help out. They did and were being shot at for their efforts. Yes, the Feds made mistakes. But to say that once 72 hours were up and suddenly ALL blame went to the President, I have a problem. This is pricisely what the Democrats want to do is shift ALL blame of hurricane Katrina on to the President. They blame the President for EVERYTHING negative that has happened ( or anything good that didn't happen) in New Orleans over the past year onto the President. I have listed at least one article where "local" New Orleans residents are complaining about the "local" government as there are a lack of school open. Also the local government set today as some date when everyone had to have their home or lot cleans. Anyone who doesn't have their property cleaned by today faces fines or their property bulldozzed. <<<And, any of us who have means are to be blamed for the state of the city...and all inner cities for that matter...prior to the storm.>>> How about "our" own communities? Don't we get to fix up our own communities? Metro-Atlanta sustained four tornado's spun off from Hurricane Katrina. So your saying that the good people of Georgia, everywhere else as well as the good people who had homes along the Outer Banks of North Carolina who lost all their homes ( most of which have not yet been replaced from a hurricane last summer as well ). Will just have to go without. So I guess the poor people of New Orleans more important than those rich people who's homes were destroyed in the Florida Panhandle of along North Carolina's Outer Banks? Talk about Social class warfare. Or people being about to repair their own communities. Incase you didn't read any of the above posts. I already demonstraded that 10 Billion dollars have been spent toward the hurricane Katrina victims. With another 60 Billion promised. No assistance, charity or aid along those numbers has been promised ( or received ) to the numerous hurricane victims in states along the Altantic coastline, Florida or the Florida panhandle from any of the other numerous hurricanes that have struck EVER.

It was the local government who directed people to the Superdome and the Convention Center...where supplies were not ready. As for the poor...I'm just suggesting that we all bear some resposiblity for allowing our large cities to be in such a state of disrepair that something like this could happen. If this storm were as bad in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, etc we would have pockets of the poor who would fair far worse than those that are better off. And, society as a whole bears some responsibility for that. Heck, I was directly affected by Wilma. I put nearly $1,000 into my roof and it will be close to $3,000 for community repairs (I'm part of an HOA.) The government didn't offer me a dime so I do agree that there is an imbalance as to the response. But, the folks in New Orleans probably have a GREATER need and I can live with that.
