W/o knowing all of the facts, I'd say that a good defense lawyer should be able to argue some sort of insanity plea. Who knows if she can afford a good lawyer though. Maybe the rarity of the case might help her. So, to answer your question...I don't know. She just doesn't sound mentally sound. The article didn't mention whether or not she was preparing for the child's birth or if she was happy about being pregnant. There are too many questions yet to decide.

Inflicting damage upon self and suicide should be considered a crime. They are not punishable as a crime.
