Yeah - he's trying to hook up with some woman other than his wife - I sooo don't care.

And I can at the very least respect that unlike Ensign or Larry Craig he resigned immediately, without a hint of blaming others.

---- or have your father be a Reverand like Jesse Jackson Jr- and actually have an affair with the other woman and everyone just blows over it..

of course what he did was crappy to his wife, and if he used a government computer even stupider--my guess is it ended up on chat site because blackmail likely got turned down. Still makes him an idiot- but in a town of idiots he hardly stands out. But glad with the judgement he's shown that he is leaving and not representing anyone else

I'm over getting worked up over these scandals, because as the conservs keep pointing out, some Dem will be along to embarrass the liberals any second now. CoughJohnEdwardsCough.

And why blast conservs for being hypocrites? That only works if you figure libs are in FAVOR of adultery. Let's stick with the stuff politicians can actually do something about.

And making fun of Winky. That's fun.

Far better than what we usually hear these days.

And put me in the column of "I've seen worse", for this guy. He blew it in idiotic fashion, sure, but that's really between him and his wife at this point.

    HOWEVER...

***And why blast conservs for being hypocrites? That only works if you figure libs are in FAVOR of adultery***

    I wouldn't go that far.

He cast votes in favor of interfering with or otherwise trying to regulate other peoples' personal lives.

Generally speaking, most Democrats do not do that. For the ones that do, SURE, call them hypocrites too.

But he did, so he is.

And he obviously knows it, which is why he did the honorable thing and resigned.

The sickening thing is the number of right wing egotistical power-mongers who don't do just that, when caught in much worse acts after all the harm they try to cause to others.

That's what I was trying to get at with my "party of values" quote. The GOP is constantly trying to impose their view of "morality" on the rest of us, and yet, THEY can't even follow the standards that they want the rest of us to follow.

If he were single, I would hope that this would be nothing more than a few jokes on the late night talk shows. But then again, is anybody in politics single?

Because people in this country hold elected officials to impossible standards that no one could meet. In order to get elected, politicians, especially conservative ones, have to create a perfect, squeaky clean image. Then everyone is shocked when it turns out that they are human after all.

I think it is one of the reasons we get so many horrible candidates to choose from; most qualified people are not willing to put themselves and their families through all of the personal scrutiny that comes with running for office these days. Before Reagan, honestly, there was far less emphasis on the personal lives of elected officials, as long as they were qualified and did their jobs. Part of it is the increased media coverage and part of it is the conservative moral values thing rearing its head. If Lee had been a Democrat, their would have been talk, but he would not have to resign. The dems are not usually the ones to claim moral superiority, so while they may end up looking like jerks, they don't come across as hypocrites.

    Barney Frank?

Or is he married now? I forget which states allow marriage, but I figure a guy like that has to have a partner.
