I think it's absolutely possible that something newer and shinier could take its place (pretty much the way Facebook supplanted myspace). Or social networking itself could come to seem like a fad; something we all did for a while, and burned out on. Hard to say. Facebook is obviously going to try to keep ahead of the curve, but what if someone makes a better mousetrap?

But then I think a lot of people find a groove where they really enjoy it. You know, they block the annoying people and end up with their usual suspects that they "hang out" with. I do an update about once every two days, I check it a few times a day - am I a heavy user? I honestly don't know.... I went from almost deleting my account a year or two ago to really enjoying it these days, in an oddly casual yet invested sort of way.

Exactly. Instead, the guys I know say it's likely the beginning of the end of Facebook. They also say they didn't expect to be right so soon, what with the immediate investigations and all. My money goes nowhere near Facebook.

Simple supply and demand tells you that was probably not a good thing to do. Just one more example of the rampant corruption on Wall Street. As for FB itself, I enjoy it. I find it a good way to keep up with friends and family that I don't see very often and get news updates from a couple of local TV stations for news and weather information. I enjoy some of the games, but NEVER pay for them any more. I'm not sure why, perhaps the VERY PUBLIC nature of it, things there never seem to get as contentious as they do here at LP and at other bulletin boards I post to.

You're not looking at the right pages, Trippy. I've got an old co-worker/friend in OKC who will occasionally post politically-motivated things that idiots jump all over, and I'm right there, slinging it out with them on Claudia's posted links/statuses. I've also gotten into it with other friends of mine there. Ahhhhhhhh, Facebook. lol
