I remain in awe of how dire the lack of critical thinking gets.

If you follow snopes.com at all, you know the rumors about Obama greatly outnumber those of Bush, and unlike Bush, are exclusively negative. If you believe conservative emails, Obama's banned national prayer day, won't support scouting, won't support the troops, pardons terrorists, and drowns puppies.

The evidence is there: Conservatives are unthinking idiots, by and large. If you are conservative and don't like that label, get your house in order or get out. When is enough enough?

But the sad thing is that's exactly what these people do all the time. Their complete lack of trust in the President is unbelievable - they always assume the worst from him. And he's done absolutely NOTHING to deserve that type of scrutiny and distrust.

One of my hard-right uncles has me on his email list (and I can't get off!!), and I get these things all the time.

I've begged him to take me off his list, but I think he wants to "inform" me of "what's REALLY happening" or something.

I patiently point him to snopes to point out that pretty much all of these things have no basis in fact whatsoever, but it does no good. He doesn't WANT to know the truth, he wants to know what he wants to know.

A President no matter who he maybe should always be scrutinized,it's part of the job, but given the benefit of the doubt.

You could hit that button that says delete or trash on your email. I do it all the time, any political stuff, doesn't matter who it is it's gone. Requests to forward on the email to ten others. Requests from King Noboto from Nigeria. Requests to enlarge my(well I at least take a look at that.)

True, but these people aren't just scrutinizing everything he says and does - they are ignoring facts and immediately assuming the worst. They go immediately from "we are setting up a committee to look into how best to protect our oceans" to "Obama's gonna lockup Jimmy for fishing". It's down right hysteria - and it's not helpful at all!

I will say it's kind of dumb to set up a committee to look into how to best protect our oceans. How about just don't f up our oceans and the rest of the planet.

I mean do we really have to wait to be told to not pollute the earth, or put that we have too much salt in diets. Do we need to wait on baited breath what some yahoo behind a microphone tells us what to do. No wonder we're in the situations we're in, maybe if people in this country thought for themeselves and did what they felt works best, we wouldn't have this baby sitting mentality.

As a country we need to grow a pair.

The phrase "easier said than done in the real world" comes to mind.

I don't. Probably you don't. But those people and companies who don't give a rat's patootie if polluting will save them some money? They do.

Well, this is where "just let businesses be free to do what they want" clashes with how what they do affects the rest of us. If it weren't for commissions and committees that examine these issues and help set policy, many people would be still dumping used motor oil down the storm drains and worse.

You're too young, DAR, to remember how filthy things were getting back in the 1960's from air pollution, water pollution and the rest. Just basic littering was a real problem, let alone the toxic sludge being dumped into rivers, lakes, waterways. When the EPA was started, businesses screamed bloody murder (many of which are now proud of how "green" they are.)

Does that really fly in DAR's World, even if it succeeds in "not f'ing up the oceans?"

I know but think of how long these committees can take to get even one thing done. I say cut to the chase.
