Not sure what a black guy has to do with that... Unless of course you meant RACIST. Which then I would have to point out that the Herman Cain you say proves the Tea Party isn't racist has gone on record saying that another Tea Party sweetie, Rick Perry, is insensitive and racist towards blacks.

Perry dropped, but Romney barely budged, indicating that the TP'ers deserting Perry for now still can't bring themselves to support the Mormon. So to whom to give at least token support in a poll? Bachmann was the flavor of the month way back in August. Been there, done that. Plus, now they've gotten a load of her husband, and I think they "get it," even if poor Michele still doesn't seem to. Huntsman? See Romney, major problem with (if you're a Christian conservative, as most TP'ers are.) Gingrich was toast before he started, and Santorum is proof only that you can say all the right things for these people, but you still have to have a modicum of charisma or you ain't getting anywhere (see Pawlenty, Tim). That pretty much left Cain. I see his (I believe) brief rise as much more a message to Perry that he'd better move even further right and stop being so nice to them Mex'cans. Plus, some of them can say "see, I supported a black man for a week!" This brings up another question. Why did Bachmann fell so far so fast? After leading the polls for Iowa and winning the straw poll - to the point that pundit after pundit declared her, Perry, and Romney to be the "upper tier" of candidates (google or youtube it if you don't believe me) - she's now around 4% in the polls. Four percent! And I've heard reports that she may not have enough money even to LAST until Iowa. She never got a lot of the establishment big-money, but she did get plenty of individual Christian conservatives to donate, and now that seems to have dried up. Why?? My little video didn't get THAT many hits. And it can't be her crazy statements - that wouldn't disqualify her with the TP crowd; anything but. (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gVZsypIKGc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...ZsypIKGc</a>) This is just a theory, but I think it's Marcus. He's been lampooned all over TV and youtube. And I think the TP'ers, as much as they might like Michele, aren't about to elect a gay man (or even someone perceived as such, if indeed...) as "first husband." There's just no way. Her drop in the polls coincided with Marcus becoming a known entity. And yeah, with Perry entering the race too, but that might explain a split vote among TP'ers... but she went from their darling to four (!) percent. I think there's something else afoot here, and I think it's the guy who, as Jon Stewart put it, is "one chianna shirt away from being the guy on Modern Family."

Because it is so rare it is stands out so much when you see or hear it. And, I like to think that neither party has a firm grip on the "raciest" claim. There are a lot of horny men in Washington.

The settlements paid to the two women by Cain's old employer is a matter of record. Settlements do not equal guilt, necessarily. But it's hardly a "lie" for news organizations to bring them up, now that Cain is running. And his explanations of this and trying to say he didn't know there were settlements when he must have don't make him look too good.

So far, all I've seen is news orgs reporting on something that is a matter of public record (the settlements paid to these two women), which does not constitute unfair, or less than truthful. It may go there eventually (and may have already on reports I haven't seen) but what I have seen has been fair, and even surprisingly dry (considering how the media loves the nexus of sex and politics, as you point out). What will be interesting is seeing how the other GOP hopefuls react to this.

Add to this that the Politico reporter who broke the story says that the Cain campaign had been alerted to the story TEN DAYS before it broke, and it still caught them flat footed. Does anybody believe him? Why would you? This is indeed similar to the Weiner scandal in which the story changed every day - with the exception that Weiner never issued the flat denial that Cain initially. This tells us two things - Cain will lie - and badly - when he thinks it will help him. Also, he's covering up because he's worried this scandal will have an impact, so there's something there. Secondly, he's got a terrible campaign team who seems entirely unable to manage a situation like this - it could not have been handled more ineptly. Third - it's entirely possible that this originated from one of the other GOP campaigns. While Fox heads are loudly complaining about the "liberal media" the source is most likely from one of the republican candidates.
