For some customers, the retailer's questions were a little too personal for comfort.

Target Corp. has canceled a survey that may have been aimed at comparing the psyches of its customers to Wal-Mart shoppers.

The e-mail survey, which hit Target customers' computers on Friday, asked questions such as whether they feared that their lovers might leave them and whether, if they disappeared from the face of the Earth, anyone would notice.>>

Their management staff at all levels has undergone massive changes from what I understand. They were so shareholder driven it wasn't funny. We'd joke we don't really need management because they were programmed to react to whatever Wal-Mart did. I can't imagine when something like this became a good idea.

That does not surprise me one little bit. A friend of mine also worked Target Security. Worked Target Security in a small town where that was the absolute highest paying job she could ever hope to have. She loathed it. She could not stand doing what she had to do to work there. So even though she knew she could never replace the income, she quit her job after she had been there just over a year.

So if folks want to dump on Wal-Mart and how they treat their employees that is fine with me. But if anyone thinks Target is substantially better they have their head up their Graves.

It also depends on what target you go to. Some are much nicer than others.

The ones I've visited have always been crappy. Like an analyst on TV once said 'Shopping at Wal-Mart makes you feel like you're poor.' Which I completely agree with.

I'm not working at either of them, so I don't take that into consideration.

Where are the really great security jobs in America?

Their summer toys and outdoor living merchandise are great. And the kids love Target hot dogs. Admittedly, they're not bad.

Walmart is dark, drab, depressing, and makes me feel like I've just waded in a cesspool of filth.

I do agree about walmart. They seem just dirty.

And since KMart bought Sears, Sears has gone really downhill as well.

I'm not absolutely sure about this but isn't that the other way around? Didn't Sears buy K-Mart?
