Multiple times on the O'Reilly Factor, Fox News showed video of Mark Foley and labeled him a Democrat.

    Intentional or unintentional?

I'd argue for unintentional, but a good sign of the extreme bias that exists at Fox News. There's a Congressman who resigns over inappropriate IMs and someone (or someones) assume he's a Democrat.

You are too kind (and naive). OF COURSE it was intentional. Would a major news organization like FOX make a mistake like that unless it served their editorial viewpoint?

    No way.

Scum... that's what they are. Scum.

P.S. I am taking the original post as being factual. I have not heard this personally, so I have no other basis for my response.

Despite a seeming fixation by Drudge on mistakes by the media, it's almost as if they're interested in them only if they reinforce a particular point of view. Maybe someone could develop a "top 10" list of mainstream media gaffes from the 1970's and 1980's, post them, and think that this is somehow relevant to what's happening this week on Fox News.

You know this stupid right-wing talking point of "well, they do it, toooooooooOOOOOOOoooooo!!!!!" has got to stop! It's irrelevant to the topic at hand and makes you look foolish.

    Just an honest mistake??

What happened to journalistic integrity? What happened to needing two collaborating sources before printing a story? No, in todays world you have to be fast and do what you can to bring those eyeballs to the screen or the newspaper. Facts, decent editing and integrity take second and third place. It is no wonder that the media is the recipent of such distain these days.

I was just in the car listening to rush's first fifteen minutes or so - and that's exactly the 'takeaway' message he was spouting. "This has gone on long enough", "there's no story here", "dems are milking it for election purposes", "we're at war!", and my favorite "europe is laughing at us" - he actually said this.

The GOP wants to just wish the whole story away.

Heinlein, who calls it the `devil theory' of sociology. Heinlein's popularity in the hacker culture makes plausible the supposition that `Hanlon' is derived from `Heinlein' by phonetic corruption. A similar epigram has been attributed to William James, but Heinlein more probably got the idea from Alfred Korzybski and other practitioners of General Semantics. Quoted here because it seems to be a particular favorite of hackers, often showing up in sig blocks, fortune cookie files and the login banners of BBS systems and commercial networks. This probably reflects the hacker's daily experience of environments created by well-intentioned but short-sighted people. Compare Sturgeon's Law.>>
