Originally Posted By Dabob2 <Now Obama's slogan of change has been hijacked, and he doesn't even have his drum beat "McCain is a W clone" left over.> Of course he does. When McCain votes with Bush more than 90% of the time, the clone charge sticks. But I do think this is a big reason he chose Palin. The SPIN is already all over the right-wing blogosphere that this pick somehow represents "true" change. Gimme a break. A). not unless the VP sets policy. In most administrations (current one excepted, of course), this is not the case. B). Assuming she would have any sort of large input, it still wouldn't be true unless Palin herself is appreciably different from Bush on the major issues of the day, and that's not the case either as far as I can see.
Originally Posted By Dabob2 The other reason I think he chose Palin is her gender, plain and simple. The more I think about it, the less I think this is going to win a lot of Clinton supporters. Remember, there was some talk of Obama picking Sebelius, and some of the Clinton people were saying it would be an insult if he just picked "any old woman." They might well feel the same about this woman. In fact, they might feel rather patronized by the pick.

Welcome to the locker room, ladies. See what you've been missing?

This has nothing to do with senate votes (although they're there), but with McCain's own STATED positions on all these issues. You can't change things if you support doing the same major things as your predecessor.
