<<<Joshua Tabor, 27, of Yelm, Wash., allegedly beat the child before holding her head under water Sunday night in the family's kitchen sink, The News Tribune reported.

Tabor reportedly told a police officer that he and his girlfriend "held her down on the counter and submerged her head into the water three or four times until the water came around her forehead and jawline," according to the newspaper.

The suspect said he punished the girl for "refusing to say her letters.">>>

I'd say it is clearly a case of torture when an adult is simulating drowning on a 4 year old child in order to get her to recite her ABCs. At least we can agree on that... right?

Of course it would be torture.

Absolutely, but I'm not against this guy getting the piss beat out of him. And I get the sanctimonious that's not who we are speech but sometimes that's what people deserve.

So DAR, would you then agree that the US policy of waterboarding certain suspects amounted to an official policy of torture?

Big difference between waterboarding a 4 year old who can't recite her ABCs and the waterboarding of a suspect who may have information to save American lives.

Why stop there? Why not drop them in a pot of boiling oil? Chop off their fingers? Threaten their families?

It's the old 'slippery slope' argument. I mean, if it's okay to torture them "a little bit", why not step it up? After all, american lives may be at stake!

There's a reason why we have only sent a handful of these guys to trial or a military tribunal -- we don't have a single shred of documented evidence to justify an indictment or conviction for 90% of the detainees out there.
