Behold, the twisted world of Doug. What I want to know is why Joe and Joe's parents didn't just pull themselves up by their bootstraps?!

It's absurd and just more Republican rhetoric. Obama hates America because he's trying to help the majority of Americans get relief.....it's almost sounds like we are one step closer to Jihad. And his idea's on Obama trying to turn America into Cuba is also ridiculous too. Where has Obama at ANY time says that rich people shouldnt make as much money as they want or can? Hell, Warren Buffet is this guy's economic advisor lol, I'm pretty sure he wouldnt be supporting a guy who is trying to take away his finacial interests....but Warren Buffet is one of those rare things where you can be an utter capitalist and humanist at the same time and those ideologies dont conflict. And for the record my mother was also on welfare when me and my brother was in elementry school. It was hard, single mother with a high school degree, no father anywhere around to speak of, people fall into these things. But she made it clear that this is something no one should strive for and that everyone should try and pick themselves up, that's its temporary relief and not a lifestyle choice. My mother went back to school, got a better degree and never went on welfare again. Me and my brother both grew up understanding work and education is important and neither one of us have not worked less than 3 months at a time since we were both 16 years old and never been close to welfare (although I am thinking about it as grad school and Australia are burning up the funds lol). That said, people STILL work and need assistance in life, that's not a crime. What bothers me about people like Joe is it bothers him that people who lives in a pretty good lifestyle shouldnt be punished for that and I agree if that was 'punishment'. But he didnt seem to mind that when HE and other working class families needed help, he didnt question where any of that 'free' money he was recieving was coming from so he can feed himself and his family as well. If you want to preach this idea that everyman is out for themselves and that the government shouldnt be giving hand outs for the downtrodden at the expense of other taxpayers, then dont TAKE it then when YOU need it!! The only thing worse than a socialist is a hypocrite IMO.

(of course we know he doesn't really like to pay his taxes because he owes more than $1,000 in back taxes). I think he is really opening himself up for this crap when he accuses other people of these things yet his own offenses are worse. Amazing. And Doug thinks he's great. LOL I think someone who bitches about welfare and wants to get rid of it, but benefited from it himself, is pretty low and deserves to be outed for it.

Where does he suppose the gov't gets the money to provide public assistance for those in need?
Originally Posted By WorldDisney <<According to Alan, he said that Joe mentioned he had been on welfare.>> Oh okay, I didnt realize that. If its already public record said by Joe himself, then its all fair game. And actually it would STILL be fair game anyway since Alan is a journalist, that's what they do, collect facts and information on their interview subjects good and bad--just as long as its TRUE, then its fair. Initially, I sort of just saw it at him trying to take a cheap shot at Joe more than anything, but looking at it again, he was simply trying to make a point most of us were making here and not embarrass him over it.

Oh, and also it wasn't funny. As my DAUGHTER often says, "Whoops. Try again!".
Originally Posted By Mr X "While I think it was a cheap shot for Alan bringing up Joe being on welfare, the fact is, it's a valid point." I wouldn't even go so far as to call it a cheap shot, GIVEN the fundamental position this guy took which was, in a nutshell, "Obama is UNAMERICAN because he wants to take from the rich and give to the poor". Where exactly where this guys "principles" (his oft used word) when he was taking that money. And how exactly did he think welfare works anyway? Nervousness aside (for ALL of us, not just me WD!), didn't everyone really get the feeling that as soon as McCain latched on to this "Joe the Plumber" nonsense and stuck with it that he was done for? I, for one, was certainly shaking my head. I suppose when it immediately tanked and became a joke, they figured there was just no more time to come up with anything new. I agree with the ticker guy though...if McCain had ever gone with the "YES, I'm pissed off! Pissed off at these criminals who have tanked our economy, and I PROMISE you that every one of them will be behind bars when I'm in charge", THAT would've worked considerably better. Perhaps even better enough to make Senator Obama sweat. But "Joe the Plumber"? McCain MUST have just given up at that point. Freakin loser. Go away, buddy. Your 15 minutes were up right around the time you started shopping for a publicist.
