This speech will make or break Bush's next two years as far as many conservatives are concered. This one issue has been his weakest among conservatives who want to see him act like a conservative on all issues.

We need a wall on the border!

    To the Editor:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your home you insist that I leave. But, I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors: I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest ... except for that part where I broke into your house.

"According to the protestors, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan and provide other benefits for me and my family. My husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest ... except for that breaking in thing.

"If you try to call the police or force me out I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be here. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest .... ummmmm .... except for that breaking in thing.

"Besides. What a deal it is for me! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker!

Did I miss anything? Does this sound reasonable to you? If it does, grab a sign and go picket something. If this sounds insane to you call your senators and enlighten them because they are stumbling in the darkness right now and really need your help.

I don't think that analogy works.

It's more like the husband invited him into the house to do all the dirty little jobs he doesn't want to do. He's happier than a pig in doo-doo. He gets the work done he doesn't want to do himself, and he gets it done at very little cost.

Then one day his wife comes home and finds the person there. She has a hissy fit and wonders what the heck this person is doing in their house. Does the husband say "Well, I know I should have asked you first, but I invited him in to do my chores"?

No. He all of a sudden acts all shocked that this person is in the house, takes back everything he paid and orders him out.

At least your an honest lib not trying to hide who you people really are. We need to give people like you a 24/7 cable show. It would let the GOP win by even bigger margins.

You obviously don't own a house, or anything else with those "imaginary" property lines.

Well Frog, there are ZERO conservatives who are wanna be anarchists like you.

Now go to a " peace rally " and you will see many, many LIBERALS talking just like you.

Again, I applaud you being honest and actually expressing the deep down, behind closed doors views of liberals everywhere.

It helps prove my so called broken record message about the left in this country.

Yeah, a GREAT BIG SHINY WALL!!!! Made of shiny steel. Perhaps Frank Gehry can help design it, in that flowing steel look that he does.

Like the Bilbao, or The Walt Disney Concert Hall. And it can be a nifty tourist attraction -- charge $25.00 admission, and people can go visit THE BIG SHINY WALL, and we can pretend that the United States is all compassionate and cares about other people and countries and stuff.

THE WALL can have armed guards and state-of-the-art computers every 4 miles.

And it'll be built by Halliburton ['cause they won the bid], and it'll cost the U.S. $75 Trillion more dollars that we don't have.

But wait! All the construction will be done by undocumented workers from Mexico!

    It'll be beautiful.

The real issue is to prevent 'non-desireables' easy access into the country from both directions and the waters. Not just illegal immigrants form all countries to the south.
