It's more like the husband invited him into the house to do all the dirty little jobs he doesn't want to do. He's happier than a pig in doo-doo. He gets the work done he doesn't want to do himself, and he gets it done at very little cost. Then one day his wife comes home and finds the person there. She has a hissy fit and wonders what the heck this person is doing in their house. Does the husband say "Well, I know I should have asked you first, but I invited him in to do my chores"? No. He all of a sudden acts all shocked that this person is in the house, takes back everything he paid and orders him out.
