Originally Posted By SingleParkPassholder ">>I prefer it when it happens without faith and just as a good community intervention.<< Why?" I agree. Why? Fine and dandy that some people question faith, but after a while, it's mor elike, okay, I get it, but pick something with a bit more import to make your point. Who really cares if it took a church and faith to help Haiti? Good for them? What did it hurt thatit was, for thelack of a better term, faith based? Leave them be once in a while. It comes across as "I'd rather you didn't brag about believing in God." Well, the obvious counter is "I'd rather you didn't brag about not believing." Who gets to decide who wins there? In this case, faith helped foment a good thing. Leave them be for a change.

Why use that title to talk about your church donating? Why not say "My Church Donated to Haiti" and then share the story in the Community section? Instead we get "Blessed to be a Person of Faith" in World Events, then people wonder why non-believers make comments? Seriously? I'm so fed up with the hypocrisy that wants non-believers to walk on eggshells when they share what they think. Richard Dawkins sets up a secular charity to donate to Haiti and he's criticized for "rubbing people's noses in Atheism." Is there anyway or anything a non-believer can do that expresses their disbelief that won't piss people off? Or are we just permitted to exist as long as we keep our traps shut about how we feel about religion? Meanwhile, talking about how wonderful it is to be a person of faith is A-ok. Gotcha.
Originally Posted By SingleParkPassholder "If my title made you at all uncomfortable please understand that I dont care." See, here's the thing. I can't remember when donnyaz hasn't written something that I wanted to ridicule. Today, he wrote something I thought was okay, and I even sort of defended him. Then I saw he's LDS. Oh-oh, I thought. Then I saw this post. What a surprise. Nevermind donnyaz, your membership in a corporate cult trumps any goodwill you might have engendered today. And I know you don't care. Take your apathy, add an equal amount of disgust and scorn, multiply by infinity, and you might begin to scratch the surface with how I feel about Mormons.

Instead we'd get a slew of, "Well what does being a non-believer have to do with it? MY church donated to Haiti!" Hence the hypocrisy.

And there goes any scrap of goodwill engendered by the OP, and we are left with yet another "all hail my Mormon righteousness!" thread. Yawn. Out of curiosity, are ALL the right wing extremists here Mormons? Sure seems that way (Douglas?). With all the negative sentiment here towards Mormons, I have to wonder what it is they're all doing here (though the OP title and defiant defense of it says a lot about the real reasons, I'd say).
