If former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee wins the presidency, he wants the Rolling Stones for his inauguration.

He might have a shot, too, because he says Keith Richards owes him.

The Washington Post reports Huckabee reminded reporters at a suburban Washington fundraiser Sunday that one of his last acts as governor was to pardon Richards for a misdemeanor conviction for reckless driving in 1975.

Huckabee says he met Richards after a Stones show in Little Rock last year, and Richards jokingly brought it up. Huckabee used his power to clear Richards' record.

Huckabee says some cynics say he wouldn't have done that had Richards not been in the Rolling Stones. Huckabee says, "If you can play guitar like Keith Richards, I'll do it for you."<<

I like Huckabee. I can't see myself voting for him because our ideological differences are so great, but I sure respect him. He seems like a good guy, and he's always intelligent on the talk shows I've seen him on.

He at least comes off as authentic. Though that took a bit of a hit last night after he defended Bush's Iraq speech in pure talking point form. It wouldn't have been so bad if he'd defended it in words that sounded like his own, but it was basic boilerplate. In his defense, it was right after the speech and he wouldn't have had time to compose much of anything. Still, one would like to think that if these guys really do defend Bush's Iraq policy, they'd be able to do so believably in their own words, even off the cuff.
