After all I would intend to keep my money squandered away as much as I could and accept my SS check every month. A check I don't really need paid for by a couple of minimum wage Burger King employee's. If you're going to collect it, then you need to pay into it. If they don't pay in then it is the rich folks that are on welfare isn't it? Incentive tax reduction has a place but it is not in a energy driven economy that is presently held hostage by a government without the courage or conviction to save our economy. I have never felt this helpless or this bad about my country in my life. We are manipulated by a few greedy opportunists and apparently all the taxes we do pay are not being used to protect our interests as a nation. Apparently, the Republican party has given up any hope of success in the next election because they sure seem bent on doing everything (or not doing, in this case) to ensure that they get blamed for our current state. I'm afraid I cannot argue with them on that point. I know, it is a Democratic controled legislature, but, I have yet to see any comprehensive action taken by our President, and his oil cronies, to, at least, try and help us out here.

Originally Posted By DouglasDubh <Living in a fools world, some people think that we can pay off the deficit by keeping taxes low.> The trick is to lower spending, not increase taxes. That's what worked in the 1990's. <If you're going to collect it, then you need to pay into it. If they don't pay in then it is the rich folks that are on welfare isn't it?> The rich do pay into it. There is just a limit on how much they pay, and there is a limit on how much they receive later.

Spending did not decrease, except in the area of defense. The Baby Boomers are retiring now, tax revenues will be on decline, and we have the Iraq albatross to keep defense spending levels high. Not a good recipe for anyone's economic plan, Democrat or Republican. Taxes will have to increase no matter who gets elected.
Originally Posted By DouglasDubh <Spending did not decrease, except in the area of defense.> True, but it grew at a slower rate under the Republican Congress than it did under a Democrat one. Our current deficit is not that big. We can easily keep tax rates the same and trim spending a bit and the deficit will disappear.

(Say 2% on every taxbracket, those who don't pay now can keep on not paying.) I want the feds to stop mortgaging my and my son's future! Stop the money bleed in Iraq will help with that too. Overall though it really the states (my state--CA--at least) that needs to raise taxes. I want my state to provide world class public schools (including community colleges and universities), an effective health insurance program, and a wonderful public transportation system. All of those take money (as well as effective administrators, which are not always easy to come by). We make the median income in CA, more or less. I just checked our tax return. We paid a total of $246 in state income taxes last year. (As well as, or course our sales taxes). That's criminal, in my mind.

I mean heck, it isn't fait that they spent 10 years in medical school, an opportunity that I didn't have, and they worked 2 jobs while in med shcool to get through, while I was drinking beer at the bar with my buddies. Tax the rich, redistribute the wealth! Why should they be able to shop at Nordstrom while I barely make it at Walmart? IT'S NOT FAIR!!! WAAAA BOO HOO... TAX THEM TAX THEM TAX THEM!!! And while we're at it let's tax the plumber who worked hard to build his own business and like the smallbusiness owners across the country, employs most of the working class! Get his money too, its not fair!!! Grow up people.
