Do you believe Hawaii is part of the United States?" 12% answered "no" or "not sure". 12% of conservatives in North Carolina do not know for sure that Hawaii is part of the US!!!! I find that VERY frightning. Quick facts: NC has a population of nearly ten million people, of which about 25% are african american. You KNOW that black people don't question the president's heritage, so we can slice them right off the top. If approximately half of the state's citizens are 'conservative', that makes over two million people - in one state - who believe this nonsense. This isn't just the "kook fringe" - it's the heart and soul of the republican party - the rock-bottom remainders who haven't abandoned the GOP for the sake of their own dignity.
